A Sock for Big Foot?
.
Not quite red, but close.
Not exactly. I've gone off the deep end and decided to felt up some knitting. I am not a fan of felt. But thinking of long wearing slippers convinced me that felt was the ticket. So I just knit a big pair of socks and very soon I will be tossing them into the washer with some other items and hoping they will come out as slippers in just the right size for my dainty toes.
I am also thinking that this being November, and Christmas not too far away, that slippers are better for gifts than the tired and too often given socks. I found an excellent source for free patterns for slippers here. I haven't used any of these patterns yet, but I have plans. Of course they will get blogged as they are made.

    Oooh, yummy almost-red slippers!

I agree with denise~ the 'fuzzyfeet' pattern from knitty is great. I knit mine back and forth for a while at the top, to make sure they don't felt down too tight around the ankle.

  3. I just went to Knitty's website to copy and paste the pattern here - but Denise beat me to it! It is my favorite felted slipper pattern.

  4. Yes, yes yes! to all of you commenters. That Fuzzy Feet slipper from Knitty.com is dizactly the one I made, only using my ingrained sock pattern. It will look the same except possibly the cuff.

  5. I've made LOTS of the Desert Bootie from the site you listed. The one on the right; the cuff folds down nicely. Hmmm, I'm going to a wool demo today, maybe I might pick up something to do a felted version.

Any idea how much larger to make the pattern to allow for the shrinkage?

Although I am not a knitter, I do a lot of felting using wool yarn to make a lace fabric. My rule of thumb is that it will shrink 1/3 to 1/2, depending on how long you work it. I would check it quite often if putting it in the washing machine. It might turn into a brick.

  7. As an avid felt-a-holic my favorite felted slipper sock is Cat Bordhi's from her book "Socks That Soar". I have found them to be THE cure for cold feet. I learned to knit just to make sure I would never run out of them. I have given them as gifts - and always get requests for more!
