REuse, REcycle and REpurpose

Undercabinet halogens (Lowe's) turned out to be the solution for my low ceiling lighting problems. I was going to have them hard wired when I called in the electrician for the rest of our electric work, but y'know I just couldn't wait. I am already waiting until mid November for my cheap imitation Ott Lite to arrive. It turns out that these are just perfect. Bright white light right over the work surface. And way inexpensive at like $25.

Cheap imitation Ott Lite. These cuties are not included.

An old power strip holds the cords off the floor for the light, the iron and the extension cord for my temporary floor lamp. One click and they all turn on and off. Hokey yet wonderful. Yes, the whole set up is kinda make-do, but you know I love it anyway. Since it still feels like we are living in a vacation home, one wouldn't expect a full studio in a cottage, and yet I have one.

On Saturday I made a padded cover for my new table from the cover I had on my old table. The batting was still in pristine condition under the canvas which is what you see here. I was going to use Rain No Stain as the cover, but when I uncovered the first two layers of the old door, this canvas looked still great, so I bleached it and used it again. I need to get some appropriate elastic to make the fitted cover snug, but it is working so well now, that there is no rush.

I am using Dave's birthday mp3 player to listen to podcasts and it is so great to catch up on stuff I missed hearing while on the road.

In my adjacent bedroom I set up a bookcase next to the sewing table for my threads/refreshment center. Tea anyone? I have another one of these IKEA bookcases next to my worktable in the studio to hold rotary cutters, rulers and irons.

This whole setup is far less than what I absolutely thought I must have when we lived in the other house. It turns out that this is all that I really need.

  3. so part of your studio is in your bedroom and the other is in an adjoining room? You have a fridge, ipod player and a tv and a bathroom? What else is there?

Why Ms Mel, IKEA has such grreeeat lights!!! Why not just get a good light for that ceiling?

Make-shift can only go so far, you shouldn't be losing 'quality of life' in the process.

  7. I have the same fake ott lights and got them at big lots and love them better than the ott ones, They are brighter and as all aging eyes know, the more light the better, Like the idea of the under cabinet light and need to set up something simular in the garage for my dyeing and screen printing area.
