The White Deer

I wouldn't have believed this if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Can a white elephant be far behind?

  1. So is that brown with white splotches, or white with brown splotches?

It's all in perspective, but with those deer, will you be able to keep your hostas?

    Good Morning Mel!
I have seen fully albino deer before but never a spotted one. You should send your deer pictures to the TNDNR (Tennesse Department of Natural Resources). I am sure they would love to see pictures of this unique fawn.

Did you notice if it had red eyes or not?

    TNDNR is called TWRA

If it has one or 2 pink eyes. Then it would qualify as an albino deer I guess.
    From the TWRA website...

    Albino Deer
Hunting, trapping, or possession of albino deer is prohibited as set forth in TCA Chapter 70-4-130. An albino deer is a deer with a lack, or significant deficiency, of pigment in the skin and hair, and has pink eyes.

Check this article out about White Deer...

Early Native Americans had such high regard for albino whitetail deer that they believed merely seeing one would bring them good luck.

They often referred to the animals as "ghost deer," and some thought they had magical powers for healing the sick. They believed killing an albino deer would bring shame and misfortune to the hunter and his family.

I have some deer and rabbit spray that works great. It absolutely reeks until it dries but it has saved my plants. My sister was using it when she was going back and forth to the states (you can't get it in Canada) so her yard looked great but, now that she is in Canada full time, well, let's say the salad bar was open for business and it didn't take the deer long to figure it out!! I will have to take a couple of bottles with me in the spring.

  10. Beautiful. How lucky that you were able to capture them. I love my herd that doesn't even move when I pull up in the drive anymore. They just look at me like I'm a minor interruption. I bet you gasped at that cutie.

  12. Don't tell your neighbors about the white deer. Hunters prize them even if there is a TN law.

  13. My husband looked at it and said, "That's a piebald deer" - here is a link to it.

  14. There's a huge controversy going on in Oregon at the moment around a family's right to keep such a deer. She was born with leg deformities and the family's spent thousands of $$$, over the last six years, on vet bills. They named her Snowball. This is literally front-page news in Portland: http://tinyurl.com/2gtdve
