Swiss Socks

I have neglected postings about knitting, much to my shame. But I have not neglected knitting in real life. I knit these socks while I was in Switzerland, in class, bad teacher that I was. Get Hundertwasser Opal sock yarn here.
And these too. In fact I bought all this yarn in Switzerland and knit while my students worked, after I had hand stitched all the quilts I had started before I arrived. The yarn is not Swiss, it is German and is the Hundertwasser colors developed by Opal in tribute to that wonderful Austrian artist. How international.
These are also from my Swiss trip, but are Regia 6-ply my favorite sock yarn. It is heavier than most and really long wearing and good for walking around shoeless. Hard to find in my lys. Ach! I have no LYS anymore. NO problem...my potting shed is full of yarn and will have to be distributed amongst you all soon. See this blogsite.

This is not Swiss yarn, but was collected from leftovers of Koigu, and Baby Ull. Not self striping, making it more of a challenge to knit it in stripes.
I plan on working on this pair's second sock tonight, while watching all my fave new shows, but

WAIT!!!! HOLD THE PRESSES!!!
At 7am I got a phone call from a shipping company looking for directions to my house. My drafting table is coming today! Holy Cow, I must make my studio ready for this new piece of necessary furniture. And I am in the midst of finishing the newest quilt.
New Quilt Alert to West Coast collectors. I will be posting the new piece on Friday at 8am Pacific time. And I apologize that in the past the Eastern and Central times zones got first dibs. I will be issuing NQA's from now on, I promise.

  1. And what are your new fav shows? I thought of you while watching Men in Trees when the sheriff guy was talking about how going to real court was even better than watching Law and Order.

Socks! I knit a pair like the top ones, except I didn't rib the entire leg. Now knitting some with a different Opal Hundertwassers yarn (Silver Spiral, mostly blues & greens).

I enjoy (and buy) the indie dyers' yarn, but for pure cast-iron durability and fun/calculated stripey goodness, you just can't beat Opal and Regia. Opal also has a 6ply which is wonderful.

Happy retirement! I love the blog, the pictures, the adventures and insights on life. Oh, and I still madly love Majesty.

  3. Wow! Yarn designed with Hudertwasser's colors. I do believe he would've been pleased considering he believed in making his own clothes and shoes. Now, did he wear socks? I'll bet he would've taken up knitting to have these.
