What's Dave doing while I'm away?

It's pretty steamy in Tennessee this week, so staying inside in the air conditioning is a good idea... for a day or two, but then cabin fever can set in, so a ride into town is the solution.
It just so happens that this is the week for the Sequatchie County Fair. Dave reports that there is no livestock on display, too hot I guess. But there is a carnival and he found a game he could play and win. It requires tossing two beer bottles at a swinging target. If you can break two bottles you win this:Dave is an old hand and tossing beer bottles so winning this stuffed bulldog was a snap for him.

At a fair you are entitled to eat some of the local delicacies.

Back at home the eggs were beginning to pile up, so he decided to make egg salad.

Pretty nice job.

He likes a little hot sauce on his eggs. Note his toes in this shot.

But the real reason for the trip was to get this weedwacker, which we really needed.

I'm lonesome for him...

I was just thinking. You know how to check eggs to make sure they're good, right? You haven't mentioned a coop, so I'm thinking that your eggs are "yard eggs" which can mean that it might be a few days before you find some of them. My aunt taught me when I was a little girl that you should float them in water. If they float to the top, they're no good...the ones that stay submerged are good. Apparently some kind of gas forms in the bad eggs which causes them to float. Good brand on that weedwacker, by the way!! (from the woman married to a chainsaw artist who has used nothing but Stihl for over 25 years) It'll last forever.

  2. Even if Dave won't write his own blog we can still keep up with him. Thank you. Have a safe trip home.

  3. And reading this new installment has made me miss both of you. Congrats, Dave, on winning the bull dog! And the new appliance looks like a winner!

  4. You know, if the eggs start to get ahead of you, you can pickle them. I'm sure one of your neighbors could probably give you a recipe....if not, there are lots on the internet.... and I probably have a number of them since I have a "slew" of preserving and cook books..... think of it....unique christmas prezzies... would go well with beer too.

Great job winning the dog Dave!
