Squish Squish in Cary
Good thing the house is on a hill. The rains came again and again and water poured down the yard into the houses behind us, filling basements, poor darlings.
The garden is quickly becoming a jungle.
The trees are loaded with soaking leaves, which is much better than the drought situation we had in previous summers.
Cousin It continues to exceed its supports. Every year we cut it down to bare wood and we think it will never sprout again. Ha! Wrong every time. We have a new one like this at the Palmer house, but it fails in comparison to this baby. The flower buds have already begun to form and we will see one more year of blossoms before we leave for good.
That leaving for good looks to be Sept. 10th. NO it has not sold yet. We will reduce the price as soon as all the interiors are empty and cleaned to within an inch of its life.
I am not leaving these hosta behind. It would be like leaving my children. I will replace the holes I leave with beautiful compost and seeds for new plants. Honest.
And Now...
I must focus on the next exciting adventure starting on Friday.
Switzerland!!
Your garden looks fabulous... we are the ones with the drought this year. Although, last year we did finally get a good rain.
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip to Switzerland!
Cousin It looks so luxurious! Worth the price of the house all by itself.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I'm dying to be with you in Switzerland! Brush up on your French! (Or maybe just your french toast.)
Personally, I have always felt that when it is raining, is the best time to house-hunt! Here in the Pacific NW, you need to know where the water goes! Maybe you need to give your realtor a boost by saying "look... dry insides! You won't find that down the hill!" :-) Unfortunately I think the market is slowing down quite a bit, but I hope you are able to sell soon.
ReplyDeleteOh! Switzerland is my all time favorite. The scenery is like no other, have a WONDERFUL time, but please take pictures!!
ReplyDeleteHi Melody
ReplyDeleteHow lousious and green your garden looks!
As Solje pointed out, being on a hill is a really good feacher, forselling the house.
Hope you will enjoy Switzerland. The weatherforcast talks about it getting nicer for the weekend! But bring warm clothes!!
you go to Switzerland in the inhabited area of highest the 1800 m, and speciality still of this area it is the language: the romanche. Switzerland has 4 national languages and I delighted you to see since September 1 with soon and welcome on our premises

Last month when I helped my mother put a contract on her "new to her" home. I had a clause in the contract that said if any landscape plants are removed then the plant hole must be refilled with clean potting soil. The "country" agent had never heard of sellers taking landscape plants from the homes they are selling. I laughed and told her that it happens all the time in the big city. She thought it or I was "nuts" when I brought it up.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow my mother closes on her "new to her" country home August 31. She is moving from the city to be next to me in the country.
BTW... Your gardens are beautiful and I wish you would send some of that rain our way in Southwestern Illinois!

When I moved to Austin from Farmington Hills, Mich. I took my hostas, they were like my babies, and they were overcrowded anyways. Unfortunately, in Austin they haven't done that well (too hot)
ReplyDeleteHave a fun time in Switzerland, I lived in Laussanne back in 1981.
Hope to go there next year.
