Suspended Animation
It rained really well last night, and as we usually say, we needed it. This means it is taking a long time for the fabric to dry so I can wash it out. I like to wait til it is really dry, so there is less chance of dye back, or contamination in the washout. Really hot water is the secret to getting out the excess dye. But still hand dyed fabric always has some fugitive dye which can migrate if you leave it wet. So as soon as it is spun dry I move it to the dryer.I wish you could see the sheen on this silk charmeuse (Exotic Silks). The weight of this fabric (19mm) makes it great for fusing. None of the fusible comes through this surface and it stays stuck so well. No fraying either.
I usually save this all for my students but I think I deserve to play with a length or two soon.

I am thinking about exercising again. And at the same time thinking about FOOD.
Yesterday Dave changed the wheels on my rollerblades and we went out for a spin around the neighborhood. In the next subdivision they put in asphalt sidwalks, very wide and smooth, and so far the Canada Geese haven't discover them as a litter box, so skating on them was great. So great in fact that I decided to do a double run. Dave was on his bike and I had to have him tow me part of the way home. I really wore out my knees and yet, I can't wait to do it again today.
The food part comes from the fact that I am giving the Annual May Girls birthday party on Sunday. I love the chance to cook for a crowd. There are so many choices, but this year I am looking at comfort food. While my knees were recovering yesterday I turned on the Food Network. I love the Barefoot Contessa and Michael Chiarello. Both of these shows have such nice soft voiced hosts, that I feel nurtured.
And I want to be the nurturer too. So I am thinking about that kind of menu. Less flash, more yumms.
Yummers... two of my favorite TV chefs... especially the Contessa. Her food is simple and yet very layered with flavors. You should try her shrimp salad... killer. Have fun with your nurturing!
ReplyDeleteOooh, sounds like a great party. And those fabrics -- oooh, yes. You should definitely play with some. Soon.
ReplyDeleteOh I wish I was one of your students right now. That fabric is absolutely gorgeous!!
