Garage Sale Solutions

Dave wanted to put window boxes under our front windows. I was kinda against this idea, not because I dislike window boxes, but because drilling holes into the aluminum siding might not be a good idea. Window boxes are heavy and I could just imagine a scenario where they started pulling out and then leaving ugly holes. Ick. So we brainstormed and window shopped and looked at other homes for ideas.
Nada.
This morning I was again determined to find a solution and headed off to the store to look at some sort of shelf idea. At the end of our street is a stop light and this being Thursday I noticed as I waited for the light to change that our neighborhood across the street was having multiple garage sales. I turned the car around and went to get Dave.

I would have been so sorry to have paid top dollar for the solution we ended up finding for all of $6 at the first garage sale.

This wooden bench was $2. It fit the three gray pots we already had. Two were planted with pansies already and all I needed was more dirt and sufficient pansies for #3. The pansies were on sale for 75 cents a six pack. Can you beat that?

I had these three pots stacked behind the compost bin, so no purchase necessary. These iron supports were another $4 and we had the shelf in the garage. More dirt and more flowers and we had a nice display.

I think the shelf will make it through one summer...hopefully until someone buys this house. The white petunias are the Wave variety so I hope they do the right thing and cascade down the sides.
I am finished gardening now, just in time for the hotter days ahead. If you do a little each year, eventually it all gets done.
