These are two works that were started in the Hudson Valley Workshop, which I used as an art vacation for myself, as well as a teaching job. Pretty neat when your vocation doubles as your avocation.
The theme of these pieces is definitely architectural, as I was flooding my brain with house pictures daily, and couldn't allow anything else into those tiny cranial recesses.
Altho I was looking at pretty traditional homes, I was hoping for architecture that was more avant garde, or even mid century modern. And of course wanted a view and a river or stream to be on the property. Sigh. I am still looking.
But isn't it interesting that what we feed our brains is discharged into our work? I guess we all know that intellectually, but of course I wasn't planning this when I improvised with the fabrics at hand. I was surprised later when I saw that I had made houses. Well, they look like houses to me...on top of a mountain in the woods.
Also, The River Series is going to the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum which I finally got posted correctly on the New Works site. Better late than never.
You are back in the groove....these are wonderful pieces of art...I can see you are inspired.
ReplyDeleteI love these wonderful intense colors contrasted with the more earthy tones. I didn't usta.
ReplyDeleteI can so see you in a mid-century modern home! In many areas of the country there are now realtors that specialize in mid-century modern homes. There are also web sites for lovers of mid-century modern. I'll email you some links if you are interested.
ReplyDeleteyou're back and still fabulous..very rich colors-love them and I like the first piece best
ReplyDeleteMy first comment. Your Cantilever could be called Fallingwater. We just visited and your quilt is very reminiscent of that house.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck in selling your house. I enjoyed your house hunting journal. Who would have thought, Chattanooga?! vj
These are wonderful. Warm and woodsy smelling to look at. It's the brown with the blue. My new fav combo now, too. I'm glad that we are finally in an exhibition together...well, that I finally lived up to some higher expectations and made it into something that you are in. I do not wish to be you with all this house hunting business. Much too hard. We often speak of wanting a small place by the water. Apparently we had better start searching and saving now. YIKES. Good luck, Melody.
