A Fresh Start
It's definitely Spring in Cary IL. I bought pansies, and geraniums and basil seeds and decided to have a new mindset, and break my habit of spending the first five hours of everyday looking at real estate listings on the laptop.
I decided that my house isn't going to sell until September, and I might as well relax and enjoy the best months of the year here in the North. I am going to love my garden, and sit out on the deck and work in the studio, when it is cold and rainy, like perhaps it will be today.
I am going to make a mess in my studio and my kitchen, which I will not worry about cleaning up unless I get that 'call from the realtor' that visitors are coming over. We have been back from our Tennessee trip for a whole week and have not had one looker, so why hold my breath any longer?
O and I am going to get a hair cut, before I shave my head myself. I had this idea that I would change my 'do' and grow it out a little, but IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! I gotta wait til Tuesday as my stylist has Mondays off.
And now for some quilt content.
Some Heaven Some Earth by Odette Tolksdorf
I love this quilt, and I love Odette. You can see her quilt again in this book.
Well, my wonderful sister Brooke, who is teaching herself how to be an art quilter ( alone in Singapore), is also a fan of Odette's quilt. We never discussed this, and I find it so amazing that we have such similar taste. It makes me love her even more.Since I never had children and since Brooke is 18 years younger than I am, occasionally I act the part of parent to her. More often than she would like I am sure.
Path2Joy by Brooke Larm
Brooke wrote about her feelings about this work on her blog.
What do you think about the similarities of these two pieces? I have also wanted to make this quilt myself. Can I use this quilt as inspiration, and yet make it my own?
someones been playing in the garden
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I came back to check it out after you had posted the words. Those quilts are fabulous!!! And you are smart to just do your thing. Houses sell when the right person comes along. Enjoy the weather.
ReplyDeleteSome people need all the parenting they can get!
ReplyDeleteAfter all, ATTITUDE is everything!
ReplyDeleteThe quilts look quite similar to me -- they are both very small with a red x in the middle. Bad blogger.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to hear about your new mind set!
Sure..dig right in and let life get messy. Murphy's Law is sure to kick in as soon as you make enough mess.
ReplyDeleteBrooke's quilt is stunning!
ReplyDeleteSorry there hasn't been more interest in your house... some people just have no taste! ;0)
Of course you can -- there is nothing wrong with taking inspiration, or even in using a "copy" as a way of exploring technique and THEN using it as a springboard. Look at all of those art students from previous generations who were set to "copy" the masters before creating on their own!
ReplyDeleteGood things happen when you are minding your own business and just living your life. Get back to being Melody and let be what will be.
ReplyDeleteI love that quilt. too. I think Brooke did a pretty good job of making it with more saturated colors.
The way to get more interest is to raise the selling commission half a percent above the competition. Selling agents will fall over each other trying to show your house if they know they stand to make more on the sale.
ReplyDeleteOr you could have an open house--generate some new interest.
ReplyDeleteI can't see the pictures or the book...on Brooke's blog yes, but not here.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand copying someone else's work in order to learn. I question if it is appropriate to copy someone else's work and then proceed to charge a price for the copy? I hope Odette is getting a cut!
