Finding a Hidden Studio

So I am home shopping everyday, in different states, with no hope of stopping ever. There are so many choices, and having never been to these areas, how can I know until I go there and see?
When I look at a listing I go first for the kitchen, but lately I am finding homes with two kitchens! How unusual is that?
Pictured above is a downstairs kitchen, adjacent to a large finished room, and which walks out to the concrete patio (which needs a hot tub immediately). I look at these kitchen cabinets and think, STUDIO SPACE. I could make this area work double duty for me. Storage for my stuff, space for my workstation and sewing machines.
Then there is this downstairs kitchen in another home.

More like a bar, but hey, one could put a microwave on the counter and feed 'em leftovers! The door adjacent is a closet, FOR MY STUFF. And the space certainly has room for working, no?
Then this downstairs is not a kitchen, but the floor is smooth and threads could easily be swept up.

You know I am not going to use those exercise apparati.
I definitely see a studio here.
Three different houses, in three different towns. Varying price tags. O it is so hard.

  1. Time for that trip through the south so you know where you want to land. April is a great time for a southern tour, the azaleas will be blooming and lots of bulbs will be in full bloom. It's cool enough to really get full enjoyment of the spring.

Pack up your bags and hit the road in search of your perfect spot!!

You will know it when you see it in person....the house, the neighborhood....it will all fit together. "Ain't nothing like the real thing baby".... Happy hunting online in the meantime....how lucky are we in this day and age to look at a house thousands of miles away in detail and decide if we want to pay it a real visit. How cool is that!!!

You shop like I did - kitchen first - studio space second. I must say I am happier with my studio than the kitchen in my new house, so I am spending more time in the studio!!

  4. Four years ago we packed up and moved to a distant part of the state where we knew nothing, no one. We found the place online and visited the area once and liked it enough to buy a house right then. Scary! But we love it and we're very happy. Home is where the heart is.

Pick three or four areas you think you might like and just go! Take a long weekend, get a room in a motel with WiFi and get down there. Print out a list of potentials, find a real estate agent and go look live and in person!
