Late, but with a good excuse

I had to knit. I knit all day. I made a sock. I had to knit.

I was gifted with two huge boxes of yarn, knitting books and superfantastic wonderful needles, and it was in the midst of all this bounty that I was having a passion for quilting.

So I stepped out of my studio, grabbed a skein of Sophie's Toes sock yarn from the new goodies and dove in. I watch daytime tv with Dave and had a wonderful time.
Then I got up this morning with nothing new to blog, so at 6 am I started this:

Limon Lane

Hand dyed cottons, fused onto batting, no quilting and no backing yet. I am spending the day out, and will have to finish this later. Posted by Picasa

  2. Wow, what a fabulous gift! I would have to knit right away, too, with all of that gorgeous yarn sitting in front of me!

I am a lurker : ) and wanted to say how gorgeous I think your quilts and paintings are! I gave up quilting years back because of all the finicky piecing and the rigidity of it. You are inspiring me to try fusing! However, I cannot start dyeing as well because my house will fall over with too much stuff. Do you sell your fabric or can you recommend a vendor of hand-dyed material? Thank you so much!

  4. Edwina, www.artfabrik.com is perfect for your needs. Laura, who runs it, is in Japan at the moment, but you can put in an order and she will fill it when she returns.

Who did that to you, who sent you wool and needles??? Who took you away from your quilting series?!? I would 'darely' like to know.

  6. What size needles are you using for Emily's toe sock yarn...and how many are you casting on? I don't do that "gauge thing" and I would like to maybe try a larger needle than these #2 bamboo dpns!

  7. Melody,

I am loving your new "street" series. But I am wondering...are you thinking of these as color studies for something bigger? Or you're making them just because they're fun? Where do you see these going, or do you think about that? I notice that in these small pieces, you've incorporated the "stacks" construction you've emphasized before, plus the strip sets...sort of a synthesis of things you've been exploring for a while. But (maybe because i have a hard time staying small) I'm wondering whether you're planning to go bigger with this idea?
I really love what you're doing with these.

So much of the artistry in these is the fabric. Your fabric is delicious.

You deserved a day to knit.
