Tiny Paintings

I have had several questions about the paint pens I have been using. These are three of the brands that I use. They are opaque, which I really like, and archival, and really paint. The tips vary from ultra fine, which isn't fine at all, to wide nibs suitable for calligraphy. I got mine at Joann's Fabrics, Hobby Lobby and assorted art supplies stores.
When you have been collecting art supplies for centuries, as I have been, you sometimes forget that you already have good stuff in your 'warehouse'. I forgot that I had these frame sets from IKEA. And coincidentally as I was browsing through the catalog again yesterday, I berated myself that I didn't buy any on my last trip. Duh. Imagine what a force of nature I would be if I had a brain!

A crop of new work, instantly framed, if only temporarily, as I am not sure these are really a set.
I also unearthed a roll of primed canvas, that I cut into small format sheets in standard sizes to fit my new frames, 5x7, 5x5, 8x11, 12x12. No stretcher bars necessary. I just taped the canvas to a board and painted. Again, all the angst is left at the door with this method.

This aluminum-clad wooden frame is 9" square and the painting is 5". Veddy ahrty.
Matting makes all the messy edges disappear, and presents the work so neatly.
No title yet. 5x5" Acrylic with paint pens, on unstretched canvas.
This photo was shot with the painting under glass.
Yes, I am too impetuous, putting the just barely dry paintings directly into the frames to see how they look. The next three are close-ups of the framed three above, also taken through the glass.

Then these below are unframed at the moment, and pinned to my wall and cropped.

#5 mat board

#6 canvas, and that is bubble wrap as a lift technique.

Paintlick, 5x7" Acrylic with paint pen, on unstretched canvas.
my favorite of the bunch.

I'm laughing. A. Because you post early in the morning -- THANKS! B. Because that's what I would -- can't wait so put them behind glass NOW. and C. Your work sings to me.

Thanks for the morning pick up.

  4. what great looseness you are developing, Mel! Just compare to a couple of days ago when you were doing the orbit series which really looks like a coloring book..
well, not really but you did color in the areas you had sketched so that isn't loose at all! I am so glad you are taking this time to paint...it is must more gratifing (immediately) that quilting...even when you fuse! And many thanks for the links to the other artists. I had a great time looking at their work and have downloaded some to study and contemplate over time.
