Orbit Series #6

Orbit Series #6
Acrylics, paint pens, gel and ink pens, colored pencils
on gallery wrapped canvas 11 x 14 x 3/4"

I was eager to see if my pens and pencils would work on canvas. So I chose this small format to try them out. Seems I am addicted to the detail, altho in my heart of hearts I want the big flourish, the work seems to be of a more intimate scale, at least this week it has been. Note: I even brought out the gold paint pen. Shades of Laurel Burch!

Thank heaven for gallery wrapped canvas, which means no visible staples on the sides. I painted the edges black and that is it. Ready to hang! Can I be any happier?
The rest of my blank canvas collection are all gallery wrapped and now that I know my cannot-live-without-them pens will work just fine, I am all set for more.
I was asked if I have given up quilting.
NO.
I am just on hiatus til January. I don't go away on vacation, since I travel so much, so when I need a vacation it must be in the form of an art vacation. And I have been wanting to get back to painting since 2002 and could never find the time. Time just cannot be found, it must be made.

  1. I love Orbit #6 it is so free and flowing and the colors are yummy. It is much looser than the others and more organic.

  2. it's wonderful to see your work in this medium. I've been thinking about "time to paint" again after abandoning it for the wonderful world of fabric. You're quite right to give yourself time with the paints...I'm sure you go back revitalised to your fabric work... lovely pieces!

  3. What kind of "cannot-live-without-them pens" are you using?

I love watching your work evolve - and it will be interesting to see how your painting impacts your quilts once you return to artquilting...

  4. I love this one - the rich colours are delicious! I am beginning the process today of returning to my art studies, which were abandoned 4 years ago when I became a professional quilter. I can't wait to play with paint again!! Thank you for making me feel that I don't have to choose one or the other.
