Sock Directions
These directions assume you already know how to knit and have made socks before. It is up to you to decide what yarns and what size needles you will use. Not to mention the stitch patterns! So if you are game, these socks are fun and fast to make if you use larger needles and heavier yarns. I used 2's for the cuff and 0's for the foot to make the fabric denser. My feet are size 7's and narrow, so use a larger needle for a looser foot. I also did the leg part flat on circulars, and sewed them up before getting to the heel. It was easier for me this way. So you may want to cast on 50 sts and always slip the first st, on either side, to give yourself some selvedge to sew with.
Best wishes and send me a picture of your version!

Cast on 48 sts. 16 sts each needle.
Rib for seven inches.
Divide for heel
24 sts on needle #1
12 sts on needles #2 and #3
Work back and forth on #1 as follows
Row 1, Sl1, K1 repeat across
Row 2, Sl 1 purl to end. Work 24 rows
End after last sl1, K1 row.
Turn Heel (short row knitting)
Row 1 P to 2 sts beyond center (14 sts) Pstog, P1 turn work.
Row 2 Sl first st, K5, K2 tog, K1
Row 3 Turn sl 1 work to within 1 st of last turn, P2 tog, P1
Row 4 Turn, sl1 work to within 1 st of last turn K2 tog, K1
Repeat rows 3 &4 until all sts are K ending with a K row.
There will be 14 sts remaining.
Gusset
With loose needle PU and K 12 sts along the side of the heel using the slipped sts along the edge. Combine the instep sts from the next two needles onto one needle. (24 sts.)
K across.
PU and K 12 sts down the other side of the heel.
K to the middle of the stitches on the last needle and slip the other half on the first needle. This is now the center back of the heel. There will be 19 sts on the needles 1 and 3 and 24 sts on needle #2.
Knitting in the round again decrease in the following manner:
Rnd. 1 K
Rnd. 2 knit to within three sts at the end of needle #1, k2 tog, k1. Knit across needle #2. At the beg of needle #3, K1, SSK
Rep these 2 rnds until there are the original 48 sts Continue knitting around on these sts until 2” less than the desired length of the sock.
Toe Shaping
Rnd 1 Needle #1 K to last three sts, K2 tog, K 1
Needle #2 K 1, SSK, K to last three sts, K2 tog, K1
Needle #3 K1, SSK, K
Round 2 K
Repeat until 20 sts remain
Kitchener st for toe, with 10 sts on each needle.
