My real problem is letting go of the Cocktail Hour habit. I have replaced it (replacing bad with good?) with imported bubble water, in a wine glass, with a slice of lemon. It's pretty yummy, I must say. I have downed two bottles already and whaddya know? My brain is clearer. I have removed two pounds from the number on the scale, and if you say it is only water, you are are right. Do I care? I count everything when I am seriously dieting. And this diet is a serious thing.
Wonder-Under
I talked to the lovely Michelle and then the President of Pellon called me. O Yes. I kid you not. It seems my big mouth (the blog) has finally paid off. He is sending me two bolts of the Good Wonder-Under to try, and report my findings to the Research and Development people at Pellon. Can you believe it? I can't wait.
More info on the yellow label reported by several bloggers, including Frieda.
Michelle, marketing/customer service honcho (honchette?) at Pellon, told me that only Joann's is getting the colored label, which means that any other store that carries the product will not have the colored label, and is still the same product. It seems that Joann's needs colored labels on all the products they buy from Pellon. Interfacings, fusibles, etc.
Frieda: I met Frieda for coffee yesterday and she informed me that she lost and found several things in her move from her upstairs studio to her new digs downstairs. One of the lost items was a shawl/scarf that I gave her last year...or two years ago. Who can remember?
Anyway, she loved this thing, and is bereft without it. I recalled making it (a point in my favor) and it was not a good memory. It was a bear, with lots of decreases, yarn overs, and stuff I had to rip out. No wonder I gave it away.
She had that pitiful look like she lost her favorite thingy, and would I please make her a new one?
She even whipped out a twenty to pay for the yarn. I refused the money, and considered her request...I have the same exact yarn. Koigu. It only takes one measely skein. OK.
I decided that I would ignore the instructions in the original pattern and make up my own...
Basically, cast on some uneven number, like 3. Increase at the edges with a K1, YO.
After three rows of garter, K1, *YO, K2tog. Repeat from *. At the end of that row, YO, K1.
I used size 11 needles and it went like the wind. I knit much better without wine.
I blocked it really stretched out to make it look as lacey as possible. It will go back to tiny with a bit of a wash.
Love Freida's new shawl.
ReplyDeleteWhich Koigu yarn did you use?
Did you increase at both ends or just the beginning like your other shawl?
can['t wait to make my own.KS
What can I do to get WonderUnder that works? I have been getting really bad stuff at Hancocks. Is there a place to write to? The stuff just doesn't come off the backing sheet. So much of my work is ruined and each time I go back they just give me more of the bad stuff and say it is fine. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
ReplyDeleteI read the comments from yesterday... and your Dave is an utter sweetie! Good thing you kept that man!!!
ReplyDeleteSo interesting about the Pellon folks. I swear the biggest number of hits I get on my blog is from people googling "bad wonder under." I may just have to go back to piecing. The horror!
ReplyDeleteFrieda is happy beyond belief, this little scarf is the PERFECT scarf for walking as it is warm and not heavy, AND I can wear it across my face when the wind - remember I live in the windy city - is blowing up a storm. I am one happy camper!! :)

ReplyDeleteOver here in Aussieland I have started a similar regime,,, I use plain (sparkling) mineral water to replace my other drinks... Apart from my yoghurt on fresh fruit in the morning I have given up ( to the largest degree)most dairy food... I have also cut back on my carb intake Within a very short time I have felt my mind clearing and I don't feel anywhere as sluggish as I have... I am hoping that my constant sinus infection will disappear and that my asthma improves somewhat... Keep going Melody - you have my support way over here in Aussieland....
