Art in the Arctic

In my tour of Yellowknife yesterday we stopped the home/art gallery of Dawn Oman.
Across the street was a mural she had painted. It was just wonderful, and so 'right up my alley'.
I ended up falling in love with her work, and immediately went SHOPPING!
And then we visited the Yellowknife Visitors Center and shot the pictures below of the taxidermy. Caribou is the big antlered animal of the North. And they have more eagles here than we have in the whole USA. So that's where they went!
The architecture is so interesting, and varies from homemade shacks to mega arty lakeview homes. This may be a small community of less than 20 thousand, but there is an art colony and that artistic leaning is very visible even on their homes.

In order to build here, on the solid granite land, one must use explosives to secure the foundation. Since much of the income is mine based (formerly gold and now diamond mines!) the citizenry is used to blasting rock.

Speaking of blasting...I was ready to blast my laptop last night. I created a specificially Canadian presentation on Powerpoint, but a bug prevented me from opening it for my lecture. What else can go wrong on this trip? I managed to salvage the evening with a less than full previously constructed lecture from the past.

I prayed that my luggage arrivedon the 10pm flight last night...and hopefully I will receive a phone call in minutes with the good news. One must think POSITIVELY.

Update:

I just got the call. Still no bags of mine have shown up in Yellowknife. The airlines doesn't know where they are currently. We are guessing they went to Calgary as my supposed first stop, even tho I never got there, going to Edmonton instead. Another call this morning might bring some news. I am so glad I washed out my underwear and socks last night, and so is everyone standing near me.

Not to be the messenger of doom but have you asked whether your luggage is still at the airport in the USA? Sometimes, just sometimes it doesn't even leave the port of embarkment.

Heard on the news this morning that more luggage has been lost/passenger recently. Then they suggested using a private carrier to have your luggage shipped ahead of time for a cost of around $40. Sounds like a good idea, especially for someone with quilts!
