Working it out

I was loose-ends-busy all day but by 5ish, I thought I might spend a few minutes sketching, since that was on my new To Do list. Sketching in pen and dating the sketches, ala Nancy Crow, I think it was, is going to produce better looking pages in my fantasy art book of the future. The first page was all drek, but I got something better by page two. So much so, that I decided that I would just do a ten minute quiltlet, announcing this intent to Dave.

After finishing my previous quilt, I gathered up my scraps, rolled them neatly and tucked the roll in my Rubbermaid bin. It was sitting right there when I decided to work. This means sticking with the same color scheme, a nod toward series efforts.

I confess, this took more like an hour, but ooohhh, what a fun time I had making it.

I quit working on it to make dinner... and then woke up at 4 this morning to finish it with a few lines of stitching.

Dave wondered what all these new pieces are intended for? Well, I guess they are for lots of things. Not for entering in competitions certainly, since they are outside the rules of most shows, but I do have a few places where I will be able to show them, like two upcoming Chicago School of Fusing exhibits (Greater Chicago Quilt Expo in November, and next January at Road to California). But they are also for developing my new ideas, and to teach those ideas, and eventually to offer them up for sale.

The biggest reason is that I need to make quilts that make me happy. And that alone is the best reason.
