Night Baseball
.
Last night Dave and I went to a AA night baseball game (the Kane County Cougars) with our friends Emily and Dave, who had free tickets!!
When I say this with exclamation points, it really means I am excited by
KNITTING IN PUBLIC.
I freely admit, that the game was secondary on my list. Well, to be scathingly honest, it was totally irrelevant, which is a non-number on my list. I had planned to bring my current project, an AUTUMNAL afghan, but pul-eeeze! It is 90+ degrees and JULY for heaven's sake, so I thought something new would have to be my choice. Being a gal who cannot be satisfied with the directions written (despite my penchant for many books, magazines and downloaded instructions) I decided on this Moebius Shawl, and to make it from leftovers of hand dyed and eyelash-y stuff. Size 13 needles, cast on 60 sts. Triple decrease in the center and make one at each end on the right side. Garter stitch. See, I can write directions (badly).
It was so blasted hot that I got sunburned after 6 pm.
I am not about to ruin my diet with beer and hot dogs, so I came prepared with a small container of my own conconction. Coconut rum and Rose's Lime Juice. Just add Diet Coke and enjoy.
I am here to tell you that I KNOW ALL TOO WELL the axiom: Don't drink and knit. However, I am pretty much unconcerned with the re-knitting I had to do at the game. So I have about as much done as I started with, and got to see the winning belly-flop catch, and cheered LOUDLY as if...
Afterwards, there were fireworks which were GREAT. My second set of the summer. They have gotten much better than when I was a kid. Big whirly things, and floral bursts after the big spray. All kinds of color and LOUD bangs. Too much fun.
My guests are gone for the weekend, visiting others, and Dave and I plan to run around the house naked. Because we can.
Phew. For a minute there I thought you were going to say you and Dave were going to run around the house naked AND knitting and I thought I was going to have to contact the authorities. Carry on. ;-)
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify, they are the Kane County Cougars. The Cougars of Geneva make them sound like some defunct rockster who's living with his family in Switzerland.
ReplyDeleteBut I bet Dave already knew that.
Love the new project! What a great use of leftovers :) Haven't read past the first entry, but I can see you're a woman after my own heart!
ReplyDeleteMelissa: And just what's wrong with running around the house naked AND knitting??

ReplyDeleteYou might poke somebody the wrong way!
You might like to check out at www.stitchnpitch.com if you have time. Major League ball is now promoting bringing your sewing and knitting to the games. Apparently you aren't the only one who likes to knit in public!
