Slightly More and Slightly Less

Stacked Series #3
Hand dyed cottons, fused and machine quilted
28"x36"

Thank you all for your kind remarks and helpful suggestions. I am getting closer and feeling a bit more pragmatic about all this reduced quilting business. It turns out that a quilt gets done much faster this way, and that can't be bad.

And I am finding some new ways to make minimal yet interesting designs to stitch.

This wavy shape is somehow familiar but I can't quite place it. It doesn't matter. What does matter is that it does the trick and looks controlled while not overpowering the essence of the work.
Three down and two more to go, and then I can start the new work which will still be in this same vein and will also deal with these new colors and simple layouts.

Now these I like. A little less spare then the previous ones. Of course I love the 'over quilted' works myself. I am so grateful to you for showing all these art works you do and letting us all in on the trials and turmoil that goes into the final piece. (loud applause here) I thank you so much for baring your soul to us.You are a brave and worthy artist.

I love the direction you're heading right now. I especially like the little bit of wavy quilting that you showed here.
When you showed that first quilt yesterday with the overabundance of quilting, I wondered what had happened to simplicity. I kind of felt like I was looking at a piece made by someone who had just figured out how to free motion quilt and couldn't stop themselves. (No offense intended.) There was so much quilting that you looked at that instead of the quilt in its entirety and without looking at the entire thing, it lost its meaning.
I love this one and the one you showed yesterday that you said was "spare" quilting. I can hardly wait to see what you do next.
As always, thanks for sharing and for the inspiration!

These are AWESOME! I love the direction you're taking with these pieces and even more, love that you're sharing your thought process with us. When I first became a "Fibermania Junky" I was just thrilled at the idea that I didn't have to piece a quilt - I hate piecing, cuz I always want intricate designs and curves and have so much trouble getting there with piecing. So it was such a HUGE revelation that I could fuse a quilt! Now, I'm one of those people that's just recently got the knack of free machine quilting, so as Diane said, I don't really know when to stop (no offense taken, BTW!) LOL... but I really like the quilting you've used on these last 2 pieces - it's amazing how a little bit of quilting complements the lines and forms of the piece....
    Can I make you my Cyber-mentor? =0)

I have always loved how quilts come to life after they are quilted. They have more character. You have wonderfully demonstrated how quilting can add character to a quilt. And each of your last three quilts has it’s own unique character. #1 has a unique “Melodiness” quality. Unmistakably recognizable as your quilting. Perhaps not quite sympathetic to your new style, but still wonderful. #2 has a structural or architectural character. #3 has a wonderful organic character. The wavy shapes you can’t quite place look like branches to me. All three are wonderful.
