I need to 'splain something to you.

I just got it.

The it being the 'way I want to be working' when I make quilts. I have lost interest in struggling. I want to make quilts that are enjoyable. Not stressful, other-directed, or as I have said before, hoop jumping. So I have these five tops and now I am finally ready to quilt them. Yesterday I did too much quilting, as a way of loosening up.

I lie.

Not as a way of loosening up. I over quilted it because I felt insecure about it and had to fix it.

Duh. You can't fix something that doesn't need fixing. There was nothing about that quilt that needed fixing. It was the artist that was the problem. I needed fixing.

OK. I get it. I made simpler, clearer, sparer work and I should be reveling in that fact.

Now I am.

Note the uncomplicated quilted lines. Functional and not distracting from the essential design.


This is what I meant by spare.

Another thing... I have had a conceit about my pieced-fused quilts. I pretend to piece them traditionally and pass them off as really pieced, when in truth they are just fused. The fact that most viewers assume them to be pieced is my little joke. However, that joke isn't all that amusing anymore and if I can let it go, I can make more sense of what needs to be made by me and understood by you about my new work.

It is not about the technique.

AGAIN...

IT IS NOT ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE.

It is about design, shape, color and line. Constructing these elements is joyful yet spoken in normal levels. Not screaming. The feel of these quilts is different, softer, and less textured. Gentler and less demanding.

Moderate.

Soothing.

Ahhhh.
