Switching Time Zones
---
Planning ahead for a change, I have been trying to stay awake longer and sleep later to get closer to California time. There are certain factors that are working against me, like Alarm Clock Kitty.

Ol' Fang Face has assumed the task of telling us it is time to wake up, and being that he is way deaf, his blood curdling meows can not be ignored.

His real name is Jet and we have had him for about 18 years. I keep telling him that this is his last winter, or summer or whatever, but he refuses to pass on. He has stopped grooming himself so his long hair is matted in clumps all around his skinny body. I have tried everything short of putting him under to cut them away. I got rid of some, but others mysteriously appear. He doesn't seem to care.

But don't try to sleep late! That he minds quite vociferously.

I did pretty well today, sleeping until 7 am. That is still only 5am California time and tomorrow night I will be giving a lecture that doesn't even start until after my usual bedtime, 9 CST. I will fly in at 3ish and have a bite to eat (starting the downward spiral) and try to stoke up on caffeine to be 'on' for my lecture.

I keep trying to negotiate a week's stay in advance of my program, to adjust, but so far no one has taken the bait.

  1. I think you have a plan there. I feel like those that take classes want to leave a workshop with something, if not complete, at least done to the extent that they will be able to finish it without the aid of the classroom (instructor and fellow students). Doubling your output could certainly make for some happy students.

Too funny! I have a cat who looks very similar, is at least 18 years old, his grooming habits no longer do the job - so he gets matts, he's gotten real skinny AND he refuses to sleep in any longer than 6 am. Usually, he wakes me up - by yowling at the top of his lungs - cause he's deaf too, at 5 am. I've taken to giving him chicken or turkey at night, plus I fixed a pillow with a heated pad. Jeez!!!!

  5. Sigh.... 7am.... How I long to sleep until 7am. My gargoyle usually starts in on me at 6am but if I make even a hint of a noise before then, no holes are barred.... As he's only 6mo old, I guess I'm in for another 18+ years.

San Juan Capistrano is beautious. Mind the pigeons.
