Dave Makes Dinner Part Deux

The delicious, super tender, with gravy and seasoning, Center Cut Pork Roast, made by Dave.

Accompanied by a fresh and delicious salad of buttercrunch lettuce, mesclun, grapes and cherry tomato (for me) and crumbled feta.

Our fabulous Chef Dave. He has the serious look of a man who wants to pull the sweet potatoes out of the oven RIGHT THIS MOMENT and I have impeded his progress by taking this photo.

Teri comments: Now that he's retired maybe you can get Dave to take a cooking class....then he will have plenty of reason to show off by fixing you dinner. Maybe you could get him that for Christmas????

I read that the other day and scoffed. Scoffed and coughed. I have been suggesting, nay encouraging him to get into something hobby-like for 27 years! Ha! As if! And every fabulous idea of mine has been met with an argument. So I mentioned Teri's suggestion to him, with that same air of 'ain't never gonna happen' that I felt when I read it.

pause.

He is thinking.

He says, "Well if it was convenient I would be interested"

OMIGOD! I fell off my chair. I dropped my teeth. I swallowed loudly. Then tried to hide my surprise with another bite. That was two days ago.

Sunday afternoon he came and asked when he should start the roast pictured above, and the rest of the directions for a complete meal. I began to levitate! Can this be happening? I am delirious!

Possibly this interest came from the fact that the Chicago Bears game was not on at the expected time of noon, but instead at night. Whatever.

I will still have to be the grocery shopper, since he vows never to set foot in the dreaded former place of employment ever again, lest it all be a dream and they make him come back to work.

  1. Hurray for Dave... find cooking classes... quick! Don't let him find something else to fill his time. ;0) Men who cook are wonderful... my husband doesn't (although he is still wonderful) but my son's do!

  2. If y'all want me to live much longer, don't let Ronnie near the kitchen. When he was single he heat soup with a hair dryer...this is not a joke...and remember the commercial where the kid made a grilled cheese with his iron, Ronnie invented that one.
I fear he lacks Dave's culinary skills but I am so envious...you lucky duck.

  7. Aren't our hubbys interesing??? Mine started off his kitchen escapades when he wanted to create a special meal for me on Mother's Day one year many, many moons ago. He dug out my cookbooks and went to work finding just the 'right' recipe. If I recall, that first meal was cherried roast of lamb... amazing! It was several more years before he learned to clean up after himself when he was cooking as a GIFT to me... However, usually when he cooks, I clean up and vice versa.
He claims than anyone who can read can learn to cook. Well, that may be true, but I wouldn't count on it. One has to OBEY the cookbook for things to work out, right? Since my guy is a chemist, he follows all the rules very, very well! But like a true chef, once he's cooked something, he's already thinking about ways to improve it or change it more to our liking. It's a great thing, if you ask me!
We're coming up to our 40th wedding anniversary next week & he plans to take us OUT for dinner this year. Good man. No KP duty for either of us that way!
Looks like you and yours are moving in the right direction! Cooking classes could be fun - and certainly tasty! Thanks for sharing your story so I could remember my own!
PS My husband now INSISTS on shopping so he can pick out exactly what he wants for the meals! Something in your future, perhaps???

He, he, he....see....With the Culinary Institute nearby..well.....they had a class on chocolate this past summer and I really wanted to go but it conflicted with something else. Drat.

The roast looks great. And I am soooooo hungry.

BTW, the aforementioned friend's husband decided to start cooking (besides the grilling he already did) right around his 50th. They completely redid their kitchen (he's a builder- of course, he hired another builder to do it) so there was room for both of them to work in there. It's very shi-shi including custom copper work. And Steve is a great cook. I want their Viking gas cooktop!

And what is for dinner tonight? Cereal here (not feeling too good).
