Hey Dudes and Dudettes

I am having a wonderful time in Mountain View CA, which is the home of Exotic Silks, which is where I get my silk fabric for dyeing. I haven't been there yet but on the way home from Art Quilt Tahoe, we stopped at Dharma Trading Co. Factory store which has YARN, YARN AND MORE YARN!!! You will be so proud of me (for a minute.) I fondled and fondled and bought only a book and a small jar of purple acid dye for wool. I was thrilled to see the place and it was not like I expected.
It was clean and neat. It turns out that it was only the outlet, not the actual factory. Regular people work there, not aging hippies like the catalog makes you think. It is located in San Rafael and this is the place for me. So many arty stores and kookie shops and even the air seemed different somehow. If you follow my drift...and a lotta yoga places and Zen stuff. What do you call a yoga place anyway? I am so midwestern.

The whole experience of being in California is turning my head upside down. Here it is sunny and warm and flowers are blooming and there are beautiful fall colored trees in reds and golds, right next to palm trees. I am in a great guest house on a super new and wonderful desktop computer and I spent several hours in Wal-mart buying a bolt of Wonder-Under (brand new and still wrapped) and six, no eight skeins of yarn. I have finished three more shawls since I left home and found myself suddenly out of yarn. I may have to unravel something just to keep something on the needles. My hostess asked if this was an addiction, and it gave me pause.

I just wanna stay out of trouble. Is that too much to ask?

My relaxing will continue until Wednesday when I will lecture at the Peninsula Quilt Guild, and then Thursday and Friday I will teach a workshop. There will be pictures, as soon as I figure out how to put them on the house computer... Stay tuned.

  1. This is all very nice except the shopping in Walmart thing!! ONLY the uninformed and politacally incorrect shop at Walmart in California. You know? There is no Walmart in Marin County. So if San Rafael is the place for you, you must stop going to Walmart and supporting the Waltons who have way too much money earned on the backs of the poverty level citizens. Whoops, off my soap box. I had more to say, but I won't!
