All John Denver All The Time

Pretty day finally. We have had rain and expected but not appearing snow, and then yesterday was glorious.

The resort has lots of water features and I imagine in the summer time the pool is a wonderful treat. It is about 60 degrees during the day in the sun and then down to about 38 at night.

My classroom is so wonderful and well lit and my students are the best, working independently on their projects and allowing me to dink around with Power Point and knit while they work.
I haven't blogged because I use my early mornings to tweek my Power Point presentations and prepare the class for the day. No matter how I plan, when I actually teach the class there are adjustments and new ideas that I feel must be included, so despite the knitting in class, I really work more before and after to insure I am getting across the ideas to help the student.

This fabulous example of my student Susan Strickland's work, almost brought me to tears from its beauty. Plus she made a huge personal leap with this and we are both beaming at the result. She brought the word 'prototype' to our class vocabulary and I will substitute it for my often used 'thumbnail fabric sketch'. This small work can be enlarged to make a real exhibit piece.

Wednesday was our lunchtime field trip to the Sunnyside Restaurant on the shores of Lake Tahoe, and it was the perfect day for it.

I sat with my back to the sun and let it bake my shoulders and relax my cares away, just like a vacation should.

I tried to eat a light lunch but made the fatal mistake of ordering a beer and it was all downhill from there. Warmth, good food and beer, plus they had a big bowl of homemade vanilla ice cream and hot black raspberry crisp for dessert.
SELF SERVE.
I confess it was so delicious and the first dessert I have eaten all week. I went back for seconds.
BIG MISTAKE.
We went back to the hotel and I had to take a nap. Not good. And my pants were so tight for the rest of the day. When will I ever learn?

Kris Montgomery was my lunchmate and watched the awful sight of me slurping melting icecream and dripping all over the white tablecloth. They should have given us bowls and spoons. O heck. They should have let me dine in a bathtub.

  1. Oh thank you for the pictures of your class. I've been wondering how "warm" to pack. Everyone's in long sleeves and layers... so I'll limit my sleeveless tanks.

The scenery is appropriately stunning; and Susan's piece took my breath away.

Hope to see you tomorrow at lunch.

  3. Susan's prototype is gorgeous! I love it. Great work coming from your inspiration, as always. And you know what? Sunnyside is right up the beach from the beach we go to every summer...Roger's sister's house is just about .5 mile away. We go down to the beach in the morning, then put shorts and tshirt and flip flops on to walk up the beach to Sunnyside for a decadent lunch, then back down the beach for lounging and dozing and more summer fun. That's pretty much every day of our Tahoe vacation! Glad you had a good lunch there!

  4. You show beautiful scenery and beautiful artwork and what am I drooling over? Your "art on a plate" lunch photo. How sad is that? (that's a rhetorical question!...really!)

The resort looks like great inspiration for classes. I love the mountains at this time of year. Crisp air, fresh snow, the anticipation of the coming ski season. Great!
