Still in California

Apparently I cannot read a calendar or remember my own schedule. I thought I would be home today, which I actually will, but only late tonight. In the meantime I am enjoying the heck out of being in Orange County, one of the most breathtakingly beautiful areas I have ever visited.
It is simply not fair that I cannot afford to live like this, on top of hills (they call them hills, in IL we would call them Everest) and have views that look like Garden of Eden prime real estate.

I like flowers but really expect them to be almost done blooming by now. Ha! Not here. They have geraniums that have to be hacked down like shrubbery! There is a tree across the street (I took pictures, but forgot my cable, darn) that has Huge PINK flowers instead of leaves. It is a real tree, and folks here complain (!) that the flowers fall on the ground and make a huge mess.
PulleeezE.

Palm trees abound and are as plentiful as Mercedes Benz. OK there is a tad bit o'money here. The bay at Newport beach was crowded with yachts, tied up to mega sea cottages of 10K square feet. Un-frickin'-believable.

The streets have never seen a pothole, although one must take care not to hit the very low careening Lamborghinis and Ferraris.

I am hopelessly midwestern, eh? Well it definitely is colorful and Disneyesque here, and my host home is in Anaheim, so there you go. I have joined a cult and it drinks Starbucks. There is no going back.

  2. I am a daily reader too, I was definitely having Melody withdrawal symptoms. You know, cold sweats, uncontrollable shivering, nausea.... ;) Did you ever think you would have such a part in so many peoples' morning routine? Great isn't it?

  3. Yes, Starbucks (otherwise known as "four bucks")is a necessary ritual. I think that pink tree might be crape myrtle since they are all in bloom right now, and I have hacked a few out of control geraniums myself. No Mercedes tho. Really, not everyone is rich, even in Orange county.

Seriously, you should move here. All you have to do is give up your big house with two kitchens and a studio and downsize to a condo. Jen

  4. Melody, I was recently in the OC for a business trip and to see family (OC born and raised, but don't hate me cause I live in Maui now!). The weather was LOVELY - looks like you and I were on either side of that first winter storm. My brother got me hooked on Venti non-fat caramel machiattos! :-) When the OC puts on its finery its hard to beat.
