Wow! Thanks!

I am overwhelmed with the tremendously positive response you have all sent my way about yesterday's blog.
Thanks so much for all your thoughtful comments and eye-opening opinions.

So here's my plan. Rather than standing out in there in the vast open cornfield with the grazing Canada Geese, (See me way out there, tiny lone figure on the landscape?) I will inject some of you with the same artbug and see if a sprouting occurs. What a mix of metaphors!

I have a great opportunity coming up next month at Art Quilt Tahoe, and right afterward with an art quilt group in San Francisco. I will propose a short exercise in which the fabric composition will be mounted on paper or matboard and will require no stitching. I will gather examples from the web of other artists making collages in this vein and challenge the students to break down the barriers between the quilt world and the rest of the artworld.

If this works, I will also try it again in the spring at the Hudson River Valley Art Workshops where I hope to engage enough students to actually have the class go. At the moment I have one brave soul signed up.

I am pretty revved up at the idea of making more of these, and with the Famous Published Artist Sonji Hunt at my side, I will have the courage necessary to really GO FOR IT...

when I get back from California, about the 24th...

  1. Very exciting! You've got moxie, girl! Go for it. I can't wait to hear the details. I hope you tell all us blog readers about the other artists using fabric in this way.

  2. Okay, you're tagged. If you haven't already done it, you must list twenty nifty things about yourself. I made my list this morning.
