Make Me a Quilt : LynneP

Stack Series: Cobalt
Hand dyed cottons: sateen, poplin, broadcloth, and silk charmeuse
Fused, hand embroidered, machine quilted. 20x24"

For this piece I dug into my 'special' Special Editions, which I had been saving for something important. When I found them I knew the time was right to start working with these pieces. The sateen is almost like silk, but woven as twill, which tends to fray, so I had to take care not to disturb the edges. The poplin takes the dye in its own way, with air bubbles being lighter than the majority of the surface. Nothing quite like it in other cottons.

The only silk in the design is the orange-red strings in that blue rectangle.

This Stack is so watery, and certainly reflects the week of constant rain we have experienced here, with the deep blue as the pond.

  2. I love it! I've been studying the quilting for the last 10 minutes. A beautiful showcase of your FMQ. I especially like the quilting you chose for the center panel....the little loops are so unexpected. And I love the 3 little groupings of small pieces! Plus the fabrics...amazing choices. Lucky Lynne!
