Stack Series: Cobalt
Hand dyed cottons: sateen, poplin, broadcloth, and silk charmeuse
Fused, hand embroidered, machine quilted. 20x24"
For this piece I dug into my 'special' Special Editions, which I had been saving for something important. When I found them I knew the time was right to start working with these pieces. The sateen is almost like silk, but woven as twill, which tends to fray, so I had to take care not to disturb the edges. The poplin takes the dye in its own way, with air bubbles being lighter than the majority of the surface. Nothing quite like it in other cottons.
The only silk in the design is the orange-red strings in that blue rectangle.
This Stack is so watery, and certainly reflects the week of constant rain we have experienced here, with the deep blue as the pond.

It sure is lovely! I can see how the rain influenced the piece and I also see rays of sunshine peeking thru...Love me my sunshine!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for including me in this great project/series! I look forward to seeing all the other wonderful art pieces you will create!
I love it! I've been studying the quilting for the last 10 minutes. A beautiful showcase of your FMQ. I especially like the quilting you chose for the center panel....the little loops are so unexpected. And I love the 3 little groupings of small pieces! Plus the fabrics...amazing choices. Lucky Lynne!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! Love the watery feel and all the different quilting.
