You simply must read the philosophy printed here.
I can't believe I found the actual brochure in my stash (which was the cleaned out stash at that!) of this concept of Multiples. Modern Modulars, o so Mel! This is going to revolutionize my wardrobe for the second time.
I think you can click on these and they will appear larger, for a closer inspection. Or not.
These instructions came with the garments, in case your imagination didn't stretch this far.
Part deux: Yesterday Dave and I drove up to Salem WI to see Kay Sorensen, famed quilter and former quilt store owner who had donated her stash of cotton interlock to this project of mine. Last month I merely mentioned the desire for bright colors of these knits and out of the thin blogosphere Kay says, "Take mine!!"
We share the joy of an empty shelf being almost as thrilling as filling it with new stuff, if you can follow that thought. So in trade Kay got three pieces of my special edition cottons, and a loaf of No Knead Bread, thus trading a bag of delicious calories for the proposed new figure I am working on.
Wait till you see the finished outfits. I cannot start today however. We are going to a wedding, and then tomorrow I start prepping for my colonoscopy Monday. Can it get any better around here?
I remember this modular type of clothing way back when. It has lots of fabric involved, if I recall correctly
ReplyDeleteInteresting concept...I had at one point a jump suit or two...are you doing that...they are not bathroom friendly is all I remember..do you watch "What Not To Wear" with Stacey and Clinton - I am trying to imagine them in my closet..it is a scarey thought.
ReplyDeleteI remember using the 'tight rolled from square' concept on my pant legs. Now I think I'd look a bit ridiculous in the harem pant style.
ReplyDeleteTommy,
ReplyDeleteMrs. Mel has A LOT of fabric - 2 garbage bags FULL!
And it didn't even make a BIG dent on my shelves.
She can make you a wardrobe too!

Ok, um, I remember having some of these types of pieces. I know I had the peg pants. I shudder to think what they would look like on me now -- did no one in the 80's think about what narrow ankles with wide hips made us look like?
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side -- they were comfy, and required minimal care.
Oh I remember these I loved them, hate to think what they would look like now,
ReplyDeleteAre you going to start driving a DeLorean, too? Heehee!
ReplyDeleteI had (may still have) that brochure! And I DO have a navy-blue knit jacket with a fountain(?) collar. It might be usable if it weren't for the football pads in the shoulders.
ReplyDeleteI remember this stuff from my college days! The store we bought them in in Upstate NY was called UNITS, I think. I love the idea of all the basic mix and match stuff, but I'm not so sure I buy the idea of fabric tube as a 'sexy fanny wrap' LOL.
ReplyDeleteHi! I bought some of these outfits in Macy's. And I still have the sweater (for when I paint) but the tubes around the neck, I still wear them when it's cold! They're great! I forgot about the instruction papers. Thanks for showing everything

I discovered their store at Woodfield and mooned over them for months. (I LOVE anything that is coordinated.) I pored over the brochures and studied the colors in the store for hours. I never had the body for them, and I never bought any, but I spent many pleasant hours dreaming of another body in them.
ReplyDeleteOoops...that I should clarify that what I meant to say was....I spent many hours dreaming of having a thinner body and wearing them myself.
