Under a Silken Moon #3
Hand Dyed cottons and silks, fused, machine quilted. 17.5" x12.75"
Perhaps it was the 'third times a charm' idea, but this was heavenly to make. I had lots of fun using my special edition cottons and silks which I had been saving for something special, and having found it, I am so glad I did save them. Silk dupioni (one piece, the dark blue right under the moon), hand dyed charmeuse and shantung silks were included in this composition. FYI, when I dye silks, I use exactly the same process I use for cottons, nothing different or extra. I wanted to photograph the shine of these silks which is why I have included these angled shots, hoping to capture the iridescence. The sky fabric is sateen cotton, which is glossier than the regular cottons in the design.

My niece Glory is starring as Cosette in the production of Les Mis!!! She is pictured on this billboard on Market street, somewhere in downtown Chattanooga.
I am SO PROUD OF HER.

ReplyDelete(And 'break a leg,' Glory!)
Very lovely! I love how silks shimmer in the light, especially when they have been hand dyed and change colors. Very very nice.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to have a real live creation of yours to look at all the time.
The link to your niece is broken.
ReplyDeleteThese pieces you have been creating are just stunning. I missed the original post about why and who you are making them for, but boy are they LUCKY! The quilting in the ilk in this last piece is gorgeous. Do you dye the silk dupioni? I work with it a lot and have tried dyeing it and it just loses its sheen.
ReplyDeleteLove it!!
