Sew Happy Mel

Separated at birth, my new Janome 6500P has arrived home to join its sister. Thanks to the beautiful and talented Michele in MO for taking such good care of her until I sent out the clarion call for a second machine.
I am over the moon to find one-used- but not abused, and at the right price to make me open my tightwad purse.
The two identical machines are set up like concert pianos ready to perform. One will be the piecer and the other will be the quilter. Since I switch out throat plates, and machine feet for these two tasks, now I won't have to.
But I will have to clear off the middle of the table...what a mess!

I did a quick inspection, and threaded the machine and sewed a half square triangle as a test of the tension, and voila, Perfecto! I am not surprised.
Michele also invested in a second throat plate, a straight stitch, since the machine comes with a more open zigzag throat plate. I am happy to share this one with my sister, should she request it whenever she gets back to sewing.

It's so great to have a blog where a reader can step forward and quench my quest for a back up machine. I will be busy busy busy, trying to do a quilt a week and get my gardening done this month. O boy!
And maybe remember to feed the dawgs on time...

  2. I can't tell the composition of your work table from this picture but my husband made mine from a 2" wood top (restaurant salvage)..he cut a hole and made a cradle so my Janome sits flush with the table top, complete with a shock absorbing cushion and a little hole in the table skirt for the knee lifter..its a rock solid delight to work at.

  3. Yay for the sisters' reunion! I have a 6600 and just love it. I'm curious about which throat plate you use for the quilting machine and why?

  5. What a nice thing for Michelle to do. I've never sewn on a Janome but they get a lot of good reviews.

I have my 2 machines (a Brother Symphony and a Brother PQ1500S) set up side by side on two separate sewing tables. I love having two separate machines and two separate spaces to work at.

    Happy sewing :)

  6. I own a 6500 and I absolutely adore it! My second machine is a Janome Jem Platinum 760: I use it for piecing and it is a good machine to bring to workshops since it is only 11 pds! I love your drop-in table: is it custom made or did you buy it as is? I am still shopping for a drop-in table - The Janome one is so expensive! Enjoy your machines!

  9. what a testament to the 6500 that you bought two - grin. Congrats! I love my 7700. My husband also made me a table that makes the table flush with the bed of the machine - love it!

I'm really impressed along with your writing skills as smartly as with the format on your weblog. Is that this a paid subject or did you modify it your self? Either way stay up the excellent quality writing, it is uncommon to look a nice weblog like this one these days..

  11. I'm keen to see how you find the 6500 for quilting. I've got one and although great for piecing it is a real cow when it comes to quilting. I hate it, when I try to free motion backwards it constantly skips stitches and I also have a problem with bobbin back-spin, often causing birds nests underneath my work and exceptionally difficult to get the bobbin out.
