A Walk Down Memory Lane

As you may know, I spend way too much time on Pinterest...who doesn't? And lately I have been seeing my old works show up, pinned from www.wowmelody.com. I guess. It makes me nostalgic for small works. These horizontal formats are about 9x21" and have been gone from my collection since 2007. Yipes, that's five years already. (One of these is repeated in the collage photo, bottom right.)
Back when I was teaching I thought it was a good idea to have some small works available for purchase for my students, that I could both use as samples and easily pack in my suitcase. Sometimes I would bring 20-30 small works for each teaching stint. Eventually they all sold, I am happy to say.

But then these Rivers of Illinois did not. They were so unlike my other stuff that I guess they didn't resound with my students, except for one, bottom right. When we moved to TN I was working with a gallery in Royal Oaks MI and the consultant took the rest of these and sold them as a set to a firm, so I know they have a home now too.

When I was making these I was always in a hurry, making one a day and posting them on the blog asap. What's the hurry now? Perhaps when I can work again, I will take my time and enjoy the process. I hope so.

Loved the Memory Lane tour! They all make me smile. Did you post what surgery you are having on your knee..repair? replacement? It will take a couple of weeks to be totally out of pain, but when you get to that point life is rosy again!! Prayers are being sent for you and the surgical staff! Marybeth

I guess I am a little prejudiced against quilts that aren't traditional. But I know you sell a lot - and I know they are good works of art, so I am jealous of your sales, and wish I were so inspired. A person needs to be agressive in what they do with their talents and hobbies.
