Das Boot

Here we go again...Our friend J. was in desperate need of cash, so he came to Dave's Bank and Loan and made Dave an offer he couldn't refuse. Despite my protestations, we are now boat owners. Oy.
J. took immaculate care of this vessel and it looks brand new, even tho it is a 1998 model. Dave has taken it out (without me) once already and is chompin' at the bit to do it again, this time with me on board. I am praying for snow and ice. As you already know, everything about boating costs money. But I did find a very accessible boat ramp in nearby Soddy Daisy that we will be trying out in the near future.

I have been out on it, last year with J. and Dave and it is lovely, but I am not so enthusiastic as I might be. Give me some sunny, warm weather next year, and I might change my tune. This picture shows a door to sleeping quarters. As if. We are pretty close to the Tennessee River which is clean, wide, wonderful and quite empty of boaters, most of the summer. It's just that the population here is small, and if we were in Illinois, it would not be the case.
But wait, that's not all...

J. threw in this death trap ATV too. (What have I done to deserve this?) Again, he kept it immaculate, so it is not an eyesore in our tool shed. As you can imagine, Dave is giddy with excitement to have these two toys. Me, not so much.

  1. It might start WWIII, but maybe you need to frame a copy of the picture of Dave in the hospital after he crashed the motorcycle, and put the picture somewhere very visible... to him! Geez, they never learn! Or maybe start a conversation about upping your life insurance on him? Sigh...

  2. I dislike noisy, motorized activities but while visiting with family in NY this past summer I challenged myself and hopped on an ATV like this one for the first time.I was in NY for our mother's funeral and it was a welcome distraction. My brother led a small caravan of us through the woods up the mountain behind the house. It was a trek I had not made since I was maybe 10 and would not have made again (on foot) in this lifetime. Out of deference to this novice, Rob kept the speed (and noise) down to a walking pace and I found it fun and exhilerating.

  3. I read your posts on my IPad so not that much shows when I pull it up...just the boat pics on this one and, of course, I knew what was coming. Pretty LOL when reading from afar. And then the ATV to top it off! The only good thing I can think of is you'll have plenty to blog about until he tires of these new toys. Push for a greenhouse or something just as safe for his next obsession!

You two keep it interesting, for sure. Enjoy this next phase, and happy times with the toys. Your post made for a smile on this Sunday morning.

  6. I couldn't help but laugh helplessly when I saw D's new acquisitions. Last week we became the proud owners of a little teeny teardrop trailer.

  8. Oy, indeed. Dave has a short memory, doesn't he? But look at the bright side; maybe a meteor will land on the (empty) boat, or vandals will steal it, or it will spontaneously combust. In the meantime, I will join your Prayers for Snow and Ice.

  9. It will all be OK, we have a boat as well, and I can tell you. Quilting cost A LOT more than boating ever did. So your good.

They say the two happiest days of a mans life is the day he buys a boat and then the day he sells it.

Things could get worse. We have 14, yes, I said 14, sail boats. Obsession? You think? Think I'll sign this anonymous.

Oh Dear, I had not wanted to comment and make you worry any more - but I am sick thinking of what Dave could do to himself on that ATV. I loath them from the bottom of my soul. There are too many people permanently hurt on these contraptions, including my former boss. I agree that the photo of Dave in the last hospital visit should be framed and hung prominately. Just make sure everything is insured NOW (yes the ATV also) and that you increase your liability insurance in the event he does have an accident that involves someone else that could sue you if they get hurt also. Make sure he keeps that ATV off ALL public roads.
