Quilt Weather

It may be the middle of August, but night temps here on the mountain have suddenly dropped, so much so that I felt it necessary to hurry and finish this QAYG quilt, started back in February. OK, it's not exactly finished. No binding yet, and I am entertaining the thought of another short row of strips to lengthen it a bit. It measures 69x84" at this point and looks good on the bed, but a four inch border couldn't hurt...

This is the least 'design-y' quilt I have ever made, and I have no excuse. The only constant is that the nine blocks are all 23" square.
I was surprised to see that there were more yellow strips than I realized...as I have been collecting yellow prints and felt the need to include them all. Looking at it on the bed, no connector strips are screaming out at me, which was my aim. Of course, it is sooo busy, nothing in particular can assert itself.

I had to use my flash to take these photos, as it was dark outside and all the lights in the room made the colors fade. This is about the best version of the bunch.

I had to scrounge around in the Flickr archives to find all the rest of the QAYG quilts I have made. This new one is number 8! Of the 8 only two are not bed quilts. I have it imbedded in my brain that pieced=functional and not wall art. I must undo that thinking. But then, I usually make wall quilts in much smaller dimensions.

  1. I rarely make a bed quilt but the last two I have made were QAYG quilts. Love the technique and so fast and easy.

  2. These are all beautiful and I don't remember seeing all of them. Reading this post is the perfect way to start my day with all the fun colors. It just makes me happy.
And...seeing the dawgs made me think of when Chumley was an only dawg. How different his life would be if you hadn't gotten him a little brother! Happiness all around!!!

  5. All wonderful quilts. Your blocks are so interesting with the pinwheels, ect. that the eye is focused on them. Very smart to piece your connecting strips so they don't stand out. I'm going to try this method.
