I am in the midst of knitting a sweater with lots and lots of garter stitch, as well as resting my knee, so I need entertainment to keep on task. Thank heaven for Netflix, streaming. Over the weekend I have watched all of these, and more. Some I am not bothering to mention as they were duds, and I clicked off after a few minutes. I chose lots of chick flicks since I was watching alone, but Dave and I viewed London Boulevard together, as I knew there would be blood. Lots of it. Gruesome, but thrilling nonetheless. 5 stars. I don't mind lots of violence if the story is good, and it was. And we all know stage blood is just ketchup and chocolate sauce. I am getting into Colin Farrell after seeing him in In Bruges which was both violent and funny. 5 stars
But enough of him. My two faves of the weekend were Housewife 49 and Heaven.
Housewife 49 is about WWII and what the women did in the war. So sad, funny and triumphant. I just loved it. 5 stars.
Heaven is in Italian with subtitles, and is also sad and beautiful. Imagine trying to knit and read subtitles too. Tuscany is so beautiful, like a painting. 4.5 stars
Toast it turns out is a true story of the childhood of Nigel Slater, British chef. Very entertaining, and of course made me want to cook. I made pesto and pasta. Not on my diet. Tsk Tsk. 4.5 stars.
Maze was a sweet love story with a very young Laura Linney. She was/is gorgeous and had red hair! 4 stars.
And the Jane Austen Book Club was so fun. It was a dvd, not a downloaded streaming film, and I watched with Dave who barely tolerated it. So you know you would like it! Ha. 4 stars.
Oh, boy, some recommended movies for my list.
ReplyDeleteI just saw The Descendants (importance of family and trust, and wonderful Hiwaiian music throughout) and Albert Nobbs (haunting and sad, Glenn Close excellent in it). I must learn more about my Netflix. All I do is let the DVDs come to my house.
I would highly recommend Season 1 and 2 of Downton Abbey. It took a lot of great reviews before I finally gave in and watched it...so glad I did!
ReplyDeleteMelody, My favorite movie to recommend to everyone is Sabah: A Love Story. It's a feel good, romantic, somewhat comedic, indie movie about a 40 something Arab woman who meets and falls in love with a non-Muslim and how her family deals with it. I'm sure you'll love it.
