Outfits

Now that my studio is all bright and cheery, I have been working until dark and loving every minute of it.
I set up my serger right next to my sewing machine and that led to thinking about sewing new clothes.
I have the same problem as lots of knitters. I fall in love with yarn, make it into something and then find I have nothing to wear with it.
And I have a load of knit fabrics, thanks to Kay Sorensen, who graciously unloaded her stash of interlock to me, about 5 or 6 years ago. It all came together yesterday in a flurry of cutting and sewing then matching up already made knits with new tees, and then finding the yarn to go with fabric to be sewn.
I always fall for Merino, like this Crystal Palace Merino 5, and I have more in solid cream, which matches this cream colored tee perfectly. But I already started in on the peachy tee's scarf using Malabrigo Rios, merino and silk. Only one skein of that but it will joined by Mini Mochi merino. The peachy color isn't my best shade, but I love it and the scarf will bridge the gap to make it work with my coloring.

This is the pattern I used, which is out of print but it is amazing what you can find on Ebay these days. Looking for this one online led me there, and bargains are rife. Of course you can make most of Stretch and Sew patterns from wovens, rather than knits, but I am sewing knits from this one.
Available on ebay here

I made this rosy top about 15 years ago, time flies, and I already have the perfect scarf for it. The tomato colored scarf now has a match, just right for warmer days.
Here's a fakey smile on my face, and the lumpy 'before' picture. Check back in 6 months for the 'after'.
I already regret posting this. Oy.

  1. You aren't the only one out here trying to drop the excess pounds off! I've been counting calories for 3 months now, and have dropped about 13 pounds... still about 20 to go, so hang in there! Exercise has really helped me, but I have just had to pay attention to everything that goes in my mouth.
BTW, the tees are great! My mom used to love to sew and made a lot with interlock... I love the lighting you have now in your studio... makes it so bright and cheery! Have fun...

  2. WOW, did you just whip up the four of them yesterday??? I'm impressed. They look comfy.

  3. No regrets! :)

We'll all be glorious swans in 6 months, rather than the plump, fluffy cyngets we are today. Nice shirts and scarves! :)

  4. I love how I never know what you are going to be blogging about when I click on over to your blog! Nice shirt/scarf (or yarn) combos! Almost all my tops are solid colors and I "change" them with scarfs - which are much smaller and lighter to pack with the new airline baggage requirements! Cheers! Evelyn

  5. Wow, is there anything you cannot do? All the combos are beautiful. And you are far less lumpy than I am!
I wish we could get out and walk together. There would sure be lots of creative talk and energy to keep us going.

  6. You're looking good. I'm in the process of making clothes again too, and I thought I'd never like making them again. Thanks for more motivation.

  7. Love all the pics....especially the one of you. I remember taking a Stretch & Sew class a million years ago, and learning how to make a sundress out of a bathing suit pattern, and bathing suit lycra "infused" fabric. Come to think of it, it was 1981!

Honestly your posts make me laugh! I can't believe that you sewed all those tops to match your knitted - or almost knitted- scarves! I know that sewing knits with a serger is pretty easy, but still. What you think of to do each day, or dress those dawgs in, tickles me. Whenever I think of them in their raincoats, I bark with laughter.

I like your bright and cheery "before" picture. I'm so looking forward to the "after" picture with you weating the same top and see how it will just droop off of you!!

I could have given you that pattern for free - unless it comes in sizes and mine would be larger! You even look a little like me. I could send you a horribel picture of me at 78 years and really depress you. So yes, lose those pounds now. Mine show up mostly in my face. And I have a whole closet full of clothes I can no longer wear. As they say online - LOL!!!

  11. Love your new shirts. I have a collection of Stretch and sEw patterns and love them. I didn't realize people would want them- maybe I've found a home for all the kids ones now that my kids are grown.

  12. Love your t-shirts. I have all sorts of long sleeved tees. Along with scarfs, they have become a winter wardrobe staple now that I have hot flashes. (instead of turtlenecks) But, the t-shirt I like the most is one I made. Lois

  13. Don't be so hard on yourself. There are plenty of people to do that. Love you new shirts! Nancy

  14. I love the new shirts and the combos you created with your scarves. I always lay out my scarves (not hand-made!) whenever I bring home a new shirt or sweater. We're all about accessories, aren't we? And that's a cute photo of yourself; don't knock it! :-)
