Weekend Play

I finally got back into the studio on Saturday ( after a great weather delay) and for the first couple of hours I just organized scraps. I figured everything I wanted to do for the rest of this design could be made from bits of fabric and the best way to find what I wanted was to make piles of colors. I keep just about every little chunk of leftovers and then scoop them up into boxes and closet them. But opening them is always a mess. So I took one box at a time and just pulled yellows, then reds, then purples and then greens and made piles. Of course the pinks, oranges, blues and turquoises came along too. What was left was a bunch of too darks or too neutrals. Back into the closet they went and then I could work.
What kept me out of the studio so long was the loveliness of the season, and the company of Dave and the pups, who are just so entertaining, and I do mean Dave too. We are just enjoying being here and walking around the 'estate'. You can tell old farts live here as there are so many places to sit scattered about.
Back to the quilt. I think I have added just about all the doo-dads necessary, but then putting it up on the wall, I discovered a flat spot on the pink quadrant, which I am going to fix...today. The piece so far is about 44" square, but I expect it will be cropped a bit as I quilt it. I will not be straight line quilting, as has been my habit of late. I think this needs lots of curliques and fancy designs.

I am not going to rush...have I mentioned that before? I am trying to savor everything these days.

  5. wow, this is a stunner - it has that joyful Melody look! :) love it! question - when fusing teeny pieces like these (which are fantastic), any tips to tell which side is the fused side, so they don't end up stuck to the iron? I envision that is what would happen to me anyway.

Melody, this is so playful! I've been dyeing fat eighths with leftover dye and now I will over-dye some of the boring ones with a shibori technique and then I'm going to put some fusing on the backs, start cutting and make something as I've been inspired by you!

    Happy Monday!! And thanks!!!

p.s. missed the dawg pic this morning--sigh...

This was worth waiting for! Incredible. (I don't know how you decide how to quilt your pieces- that's always the biggest stumbling block for me.)
