As mentioned, I was out to see the quilt exhibit of my friend Mary Keasler and others at the Museum at Five Points in Cleveland TN. Wonderful museum!
It was such a stormy, rainy day, but for quilting...I am willing to travel. Cleveland is a mere 80+ something miles from me, but easy to get to on the interstate. Here's a Jim Dandy number from Mary. We discussed the Gee's Bend influence. Way kool! Note the gazillion tiny circles in the quilting. Holy Sewing Machine, Batman!
And here's my favorite of the bunch, the big Orange Hibiscus.
Then we went to a nice restaurant across the road and had deeeelicious seafood. But get a load of this ladies' room sink! And iridescent glass tiles.. O my!
I snapped a picture of the fish artwork at the restaurant and there's Mary looking at it. I think this could make a nice quilt idea...yes? I have a soft spot for fish.
On my way home I made a quick detour to Joann Fabrics, in search of a new shorter (5") set of double pointed needles, which they did not have. Instead, I had to take advantage of the sale on 100% Classic Cotton solids. I got a half yard of everything I liked, and left the blah stuff on the shelf. A half yard was $1.75. Unbelieveable.
It's not like I needed any more...but I can use this stuff up easier, because I didn't have to dye it myself. That's my excuse and I am stickin' to it.

Oh no, those last two sentences are quite 'alarming'. You buying fabrics so you do not have to use your good handdyed stuff. Be carefull, this is how a serious stash hoarding problem might begin (wink).
ReplyDeleteWhat an inspiring day you had. That first quilt is spectacular. I love all the textures and colors.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day!!!!
ReplyDeleteA great day indeed. But now I feel that I really must drop by JoAnnes for some of those yummy solids. Thank you, Mel, for your wonderful compliments on my work. You are one terrifically amazing woman.
ReplyDeleteMelody, I saw this website and immediately thought of you. It's fused glass and the colors are so you.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.imake.gg/ I listen to her podcast.
Thank you for sharing the quilt show with us.
ReplyDeleteI do like the lily pad one with the dragonfly background.
Love the fact that there were medium-large quilts in abundance. So many art quilt exhibits seem to have only journal size pieces.
