A New Era

We took Pops in yesterday at 4:30, instead of delaying the inevitable. We are so deeply appreciative of your support, good wishes and love. Today we are feeling much better and are thinking good thoughts about our pet. And Chumley is distracting us in the most entertaining ways.

We had cats together from the second week we started dating, and all through our 32 years of marriage. Chum is our first dog. What a difference it is having a puppy...in a good way.
++++++

Now onto other things. Our stereo/TV cabinet came in yesterday, so after we left the vet we went and picked it up, and will assemble it today and get those wires hidden behind it. And then we are painting the living room!
Yes. The orange and turquoise are going to be covered up with the seaglass that we painted in the bathrooms.
While we loved the orange walls, the clean aqua color will lighten and brighten up the living room and make it feel more beach-cottage-y.
Notice all the white stuff we already have in here. The orange silk drapes will go in the studio for the patio door.
I'll have to remove that plaid sheet covering the white couch, when guests come over, as if. It keeps muddy paws off the white.

++++
I've had a few questions about the upcoming Quilt Along with Melody, and not to reveal all at this point, I will just say that we will be stash diving quite a bit and if you would like to prepare, start slicing off a strip from your fabrics, to have something ready to start January 31. My dear friend Wanda Hanson has two blog posts that explain her methods, and you might want to check our how she gets her fabric ready to use.

  1. So sorry for your loss, but be safe in the knowledge that he had a full and happy life. Give Chumley a hug from me as he is the most lovely pug I've seen! I think that your living room will look fantastic in aqua green, with that lovely wooden floor!

  2. I'm so sorry you had to make the decision you did about Popeye, but it was the right thing to do...for him and you. :)

    I think the living room will be lovely in that color! It will make it brighter and larger looking :)

    I'm so sorry about Popeye. It's not an easy decision, but I believe he was telling you it was time too. I have a feeling you will be flooded with fond memories in the coming days.

  5. Hugs melody. I know it was difficult to finally make that decision but you did it wih Popeye in mind.

    I don't look forward to that time with my 17 yr cat Stanza when it comes. I enjoy every day with her at this age and she gets the cuddles she now appears to want.(she was never much for tolerating affection). Even when she wants them in the middle of the night!

    I've been holding all of you close in my thoughts since I read your post yesterday.

  7. So sorry about Popeye - but it sounds like he had a great innings with you guys. I am happy though, that I can see your blog again and have caught up with your goings on! Now that you don't have html at the end of your website's address , I'm able to read your blog again! Hooray!

  8. I'm so sorry about Popeye, but he certainly had a long, wonderful life--something we all wish we will have! You never really get over the loss of a beloved family member, but you will be comforted by all of your memories of him. I lost my Bubba to cancer in November 2009 at age eight. It is still painful, but I know I did the right thing as did you.

  9. Good for you for not prolonging the waiting. I can imagine having a dog is totally different from having a cat, a dog has an owner, a cat has housekeeping personel. (I hope I translated the last sentence in the right way and you can understand what I mean)

  16. Wow...Melody you sure aren't afraid of color!...I know you aren't afraid in your quilting but that you also use it in your decorating is very inspiring! We are renting..and its killing me not to paint the walls...I think I will just say too bad! I can always paint over when or if we ever move. I wonder though, because I have so much color in my artwork and items in my home, especially on the walls ..if it should remain white walls so as to not conflict. I think I will just start with one room and see! Sorry about your cat....

  18. Sorry about your kitty....

    I also love your choice of color... It is wonderful! I wish my husband would be open to some color like that...

  19. I hate making those decisions, but when the time is right, it really is the thing to do. Poor old kitties just get so damned decrepit and pathetic it is heartbreaking. RIP, Popeye.

  20. Do you have a pic posted somewhere of the seaglass color? I've never been a fan of blues in any variety, but lately have been enamored of blue-greens, especially the ones that are mostly blue, but delicate shades. I've always loved your color palette!

  21. I am so sorry to hear about Popeye. I know he has lived a long and good, good life, but I feel so sad. I know you are okay with his passing, and it was time. I'm just an animal sucker. I could not get on your blog two days ago, it wouldn't load, and worked yesterday, so I'm just catching up. I'm glad you have Chumley and his antics to keep you both laughing. I can't imagine a life without pets. They keep us spiritual in a sense.

  23. Melody. Let me add my condolences to the many that came before. Even knowing that it is the right thing and the time has come, it is never easy. I agree that as time passes you will find yourself smiling about some antics which suddenly remember.
    At one time I had 7 cats and now have 2 and a greyhound. I still find myself remember some silly thing about each of them.

  24. Seems like you & Dave & Popeye worked it all out for the best in the end, choosing the path your hearts told you felt right.

    May you all find peace in that. And chances are, Popeye will turn up in your casual reminisces oftener than you might now anticipate... our pets do loom surprisingly large in our memories, even if they seem to keep a quiet profile while they're with us.

  25. Time to make a quilt or several in his memory. It helps....
