The First Project

Doncha just hate it when you know you have some material and you search and search and just can't put your hands on it? That was me this morning, searching everywhere for the welting cord I was sure I had. Never could find it, so what's a girl to do? I substituted clothesline and it worked like a dream. And I also couldn't find my cording foot until I was all done sewing. In the meantime I used the zipper foot, which also works. Enough with the griping, I had a great time sewing this bedspread! It was so much easier than when I worked in the bedspread factory and used commercial machines. Yuck! My Janome 6500P and my Janome serger don't break down like those factory machines did.

So here's the welting, with the second picture on the bed near the wall color. Pretty good match, no?
I am calling this a semi-fitted spread. I considered tailoring completely with gusseted corners, but then I really want to sleep under this and the corners are not comfy for my feet. The next thing to do is update the pillow sham and headboard to make this look finished. I bought six yards of the quilted pink so I have enough, but I may add some prints to complete those two pieces.

The spread is pretty plain, but then it will be the backdrop for fancy schmancy pillows.

You worked in a bedspread factory?? No wonder you think nothing of tackling these huge sewing projects. Looks daunting to me!!

  7. Well, Melody -- you gotta call that bedspread's color "Pugsley Pink," right?

  8. Wow that is pink! With all those fabrics you have for pillows and the chair, it will look faboo!
(and your pug snoring post? I though there was something wrong with my sewing machine the other day. It was making funny groaning noises. Ah, no, that would be the cat asleep, snoring, under the sewing machine table...)
