The New Regime

I like a nice routine in my life. It is comforting to follow a familiar pattern and work at a pace that accomplishes things. That comforting routine has been tossed up in the air of late.
I seem to be attending to everyone's needs first. Taking the dog out, feeding the dog, cat and Dave, stoking the fire, driving everyone around...cleaning up after all of the above. I know you know what this is like.
I am not complaining. I am adjusting.
But I am about four hours late for all the stuff I need to do to start my day. It's 11am and we just returned from getting wood chips (as you know I am married to Mr. Woodchips). Two days of pizza making mess has been brought in from the workshop/Man Cave and I have that to wash. All my clothes smell like smoke, or dog, or both. Really I am not complaining. I am adjusting.
I want to do something in my studio, besides trip over toys, puppy pads and chewing-shoes. Sigh. Maybe today, after another walkies, lunch, and laundry.

  1. Great insight. I have to remember "I am adjusting."

  2. Ah, good luck with that. My husband and I got a new puppy in June and I'm just now being able to make the time to get back to my studio. Once we made the switch from him sleeping in an ex-pen to a small crate we now can sleep all night long. But he certainly is worth it! As, I'm sure, is Chumley. ;-)

  4. This is too funny! I have been absent for a while and finally had the time to visit. My first thought when seeing your pictures was you were dog sitting for someone since I remember that statement of not wanting more pets.

Chumley (love that name) is too cute and is definitely keeping you both "active". :)

Love the blur of the glove as Chumley "loves on it!"

Puppys (and sometimes husbands)are as much work as small children. But they will grow out of the puppy stage and everything will begin to fall into a routine. They are wonderful company! Now I must get back to cleaning my house...too much dog hair!

  7. LOL....I'm so glad it's you and not me :) I don't want (or need) anything else to pick up after, clean, or feed at this stage in my life (we're the same age, Mel :)). I retired 3 years ago so I could do what I want, when I want...more or less.

Chumley will grow out of his "puppy" stage and then it'll be easier. As for Dave...well, I'm not sure they ever grow out of their "puppy" stage...LOL.

  8. Welcome to parenting 101! When I got my pug, 11 years ago, it felt like I had a newborn in the house. You will have a routine soon. My dog now enjoys eating and unrolling toilet paper. He is quite happy chowing down on the stuff.

  9. This one made me LOL!
I remember my friend Jeff, who always had pugs, telling me that the reason so many end up in shelters is that they want and love constant attention....always want to be in the same room as you are and always following. To me this sounds perfect! You'll have to have little spots for him in each room!
It seems from your recent posts that Chumley is a perfect little addition.

  10. Right now I am sitting in a college classroom in front of a big TV watching a football game instead of being in the studio. I had just gotten started when DH came in and pouted until I agreed. I love DH: I like in person football and I will not leave the studio tomorrow!!

  11. My mother would always say she love being a grandmother, spending time with her grandchildren, spoiling them and sending them home before they became a responsibility.

I love dogs as long as I can send them home before they become a responsibility. I'll keep my cat because she knows when I need loving and when I need space.

  14. Arghh...Melody!!! We had a puppy, Judy, when I was a child and my mom gave her an old glove to chew...ever after, gloves were fair game for her...she would even snatch them from the hands of visitors, given half a chance, so, beware!!

  15. Hmmmm..... I think I now remember why I have cats, although they can be a bit frustrating at times! But I also have a DH, and he does take some looking after, although we have one of those glorious relationships where each of us gets to play with our hobbies without needing to have the other right there! Somehow, I know a routine will emerge here where you all get what you need... just takes a little time! Maybe Chumley needs a little brother or sister to keep him company? Or did I just step in it? ;-0

  16. I heard an expression once: Life is what happens while you're making other plans. How true! Keep the Chumley pix coming - NEVER gratuitous! :)

We got a labradoodle two years ago and I haven't been in my sewing room since! Love, love, love the doodle, but miss any kind of crafts or sewing. Have fun with the puppy as they grow up so fast!
