Treehouse 7

Treehouse #7
Hand dyed and commercial cottons, fused, hand and machine quilted. 15x15.5" $250 SOLD

It was fun to get back into the swing of making the new piece, especially since I was 'mindful' of everything that I was doing so I could record the process. And having the new studio floor helped a lot. I swept, vacuumed and mopped it while I avoided working. That is part of the process too, which we rarely admit.

I took my time with the embroidery, and hand quilting and yet it seemed to be finished in no time at all. I guess I am in the zone. It's really great to be able to leave the fabric out and just close the door at the end of the work day without having to worry that things will be in the way.

The red-orange house is so yummy against that lime and purple. I love when that happens.

  5. Hello Melody, I am a big fan from Maine. I watched, "The Art of Quilting" many times and wish there was a REAL Chicago school of fusing. Would love to join you gals.
Anyway, $2.10 and hour was pretty good money back then. I was making $1. and when I graduated it jumped to $50./day which seemed like a fortune at the time. Alas, I was even thin then... Thank you for your generosity in sharing your "process" and the events of your life. I never thought being a fabric voyeur could be so much fun. Hope to meet you someday!

  8. Love the new piece!

I never totally understood the connection between cleaning and thinking in the creative process - apparently I'm not spending enough time being creative in my studio - it definitely could use the thinking-related cleaning! VBG
