Cotton Special Editions

I am in the process of washing out what I dyed yesterday. It was an especially hot and muggy day and I did not want to be outside doing anything, but there was dye to use up and so I made myself do the work. So glad I did. There are four layers on each of these platters, with the top layer being the one that absorbs the excess water/dye. Since the sun was blazing (between rain showers) the platters came off the shelves and onto the driveway.
The previous day was wet and rainy but I did finish a full set of platters to fill in the gaps in my stash.

I needed both darks and very light colors and feel like I have more than enough for myself now.

I like the gradual color change I can get from flat dyeing.

OHHH very yummy colors - but I especially love the pastels!! I can never seem to get pale colors on dyed fabrics like you have!! Mine always end up SUPER bright - not a bad thing, but I want some pastels....I'll try again! Have a grest weekend and as always THANKS FOR SHARING!

  2. Mechelle, to get really pastel colors, one has to start with plain water and add just a teeny drop of dye (mixed dye) and test it out on a paper towel. If it is still too bright, add more water before pouring it on the fabric.

  4. No wonder you don't buy much fabric. Those are great colors! You really have to be into working with wet fabrics. I like to just pick them out and get cutting.

  5. Am really enjoying watching the process. Thank you for sharing the pastel process - I am forever coming up with much darker "pastels" so will now know.

  8. I love the atmospheric stuff that goes on when it is hot and humid. Lots of that in the future here for sure.
