I got a new camera

After many thousands of pictures, the zoom feature on my old Canon 700IX  stopped working.  It had only a 3x digital zoom/10x optical zoom and this new one has 14x optical zoom which I find I need. I want to take pictures of things far away without getting my feet wet. For example...the pink water lilies are opening today and I can't get close enough.

This is a pretty good closeup, but what about getting even closer?

Like this for example.

Now that's what I wanted!!
And it does nice macro details too.

Before it was delivered today I was working in the garden and I turned and lifted something at the same time and pop! there went my back. So I am out of commission for anything but painful hobbling.
I will have to wait til I am bendable again to play more with this new purple beauty.

  3. Very cool photos of the water lily. It looks like a painting. I think I need that camera.
I hope you get all better from your bum back ASAP so you can take more photos of your growing garden.

The pictures turned out great! I especially love the close up detail of the flowers. Hope your back feels better soon...there's nothing worse than a bad back.

  5. What wonderful pictures!

If you were to make the top picture into a quilt, a toile would be great as the reflection in the water.

Those photos are phenomenal! I have a macro feature on my camera that I love, but it is getting old and I'm afraid I'm about to lose it. I can't quite make out the numbers on the Power Shot ???? old eyes, too, I guess. Will you give us the model number? You've always taken great photos, but these are fantastic!

  7. Congratulations with your new camera! The pictures are very sharp.
Like you I am also waiting for warmer weather so I can start dyeing.
It will be my second time so I am not nearly as good in dyeing like you are.
Your dyeing tutorial comes in very handy, thank you for sharing!

So how far away were you when you took the close up of the water lily flower?

Hope you feel better soon - what a bummer - that's no fun. :(

ouch! Sorry to hear about your back - at least your awesome new camera can let you zoom in on things and decide whether you need to get up and go there ;-) Fabulous pix! Take care!

Yummy! (On both the camera's color and the shots you got off). Hope you could at least bend the elbow to celebrate your acquisition!

  15. A good camera makes all the difference in photos doesn't it? I may need to get one of those for a carry around.

  18. Now that's what I'm talking about...WOW....I love those photos....I need a new camera...thanks for sharing what your new baby can do!!!
Hope you get to moving around soon. The back is a tricky thing....I was slightly bent over and reached forward for something...like a piece of fabric and "pop" my back was out for 2 weeks.
Take care and enjoy the hot tub!

  19. Bummer, your back. Hope it gets better fast. Love todays pictures especially the waterlily, You amazed me; what you capture with a camera. It's your artist eye I know but once again you are making me want to play in dirt.

  21. It's amazing how far the average digital point and shoot camera has come in the last few years! When I got my first digital about 8 years ago, it was 5 mega-pixels with 4x optical zoom, which was quite high back then! Beautiful shots. :)

  22. I did the same thing three weeks ago and am just beginning to walk like I am under 80. Still can't walk long distances though. Ice helps as does ibuprofen.
