Making Progress

This is not what I would call a fast block. Three blocks took me all day. I was going to stop at five but now that I see what I have, I think seven would be better...and then some half blocks to fill out the edges will be required.
I have been looking for a project that would give me that ol' jump out of bed and rush to the studio feeling, and this one seems to be doing the trick. Despite the traditional nature of this pattern, it has oomphf  enough to engender enthusiasm. What I mean is, usually knowing the outcome of a project quells my ardor for it. In this case the intensity of the mix of pattern and color sets my heart a-flutter, even tho I know how it will look in the end. The only original thing about it will be how it all comes together, eventually.

And then...can you imagine if there were some thought put into placement of the colors, how a secondary pattern could develop?
 or

And what if it weren't prints that I used? Would it have the same impact or would the pattern become more visible? We'll just have to see what happens.

It's Wednesday which means Knitting Group, so no sewing for today. And I am going to shop for a dishwasher and some lighting for our bathrooms. Just looking for now.

  3. The variation of a quilt pattern is what drew me into this in the first place.

  5. What about the six pointed star that is begining to emerge in the background (white). That could look good too in some zingy colour or even black.

  8. This is really smashing! for a pattern, I mean (which is often off-putting for me).

  9. But just visualize this if the secondary patterns were all hues of a second color scheme going on. Or each spider web grew progresively lighter (or darker) with each subsequent round so that each leg of the star remained the same progressive shades of the same hue.

    I love this one.

  13. The "blur your eyes" secondary pattern is so cool! Someone with EQ could probably rapidly figure out how to play off it, but it looks like if you did something different with every other "spoke," you'd end up with more of that secondary pattern popping out.

This is just pure sunny joyousness, total Melody. Who knew? A pieced quilt, made of prints, that says Melody. Love it!

  15. Mel, I can't figure out how you will assemble the webs...I feel stupid for asking, but how does it go together? I see the space left for triangle pieces, but how do those get put in?

How about a Melody spin on a Disapearing 9 patch block. Lots of links if you google it. Here is one I found.

This looks like an easy block with lots of possibilities. Basic nine patch just re-cut into 4 pieces.
I have tried it and mine are boring, and none of the examples are even close to the "Melody WOW Factor"
