Endings and Beginnings

The requested pair of Circus Socks c'est fini! I used smaller needles than usual, 1.5US and more stitches than I usually do, 60. The foot is for a size larger than I normally knit too, so we'll have to see if these fit. Easy enough to resize at the toe, if not.
Nope the tops don't match. Hey, variety is the spice of life.
And I have enough of the yellow-green to make the second sock for my collection.
And now onto New Beginnings
Lucky me, our local (only) store has begun to offer Artisan Lettuces! Just when I am ready to take the reigns again and get this extra blubber off of my body.
I find diet talk exceedingly boring, but one must declare one's intentions to make them real. (I am a verbal processor). Since we moved here I have been, shall we say, a bit self indulgent. I may have disguised it with raptuous phrases about the crustiness of my homemade bread straight out of the oven, slathered with real butter, pasta loaded with basil pesto and lots of wonderful wine and cheese (Cheeeeze Grommit!) the necessity of having a jar of hot fudge sauce in the pantry to avoid spending gas to get a sundae in town, not to mention cookie baking sprees, all of which I devoured with ravenous enthusiasm.
Now that my brassiere is cutting into the fat on my back (did I actually admit that?) I find it necessary to take action.
It will be soups and salads for me (and Dave of course). Lots of fruit and eating small bites at 8,10,12 and 2pm and leaving out the idea of a big dinner completely.
I've done this before and I can do it again. (last time I lost 64 pounds!) Since I truly like all those veggies, fruit and the myriad varieties of soups I can make while playing gourmet this will be indulgent in a different way.
There will be no exercise program other than wandering down the hill and back to get the mail. I am, if nothing else, realistic.

  1. Some bunny in Canada is smiling and she looks just like me! May we crunch our veggies in divine unison and issue all unwanted flubber its walking papers. Happy new year!

  2. I'm all about the lettuce too. Especially if there is bread involved. Wait! That's bad.
I shall try to be resolute too. We can do this together!

  3. That salad looks fabulous! But wait... is that bacon on top! Yummmm!

  4. I'm with you once my company leaves... right now I'm cooking for a house full and lovin it! =)

  5. Don't forget to warm your stomach and other organs up with ginger tea! The organs might become lazy from the cold effect of raw food and give up digesting properly, and you don't lose weight any more, but get other kind of trouble.
My recipe (and it works): No sugar, but dry fruit instead (it is important not to give up the sweet taste altogether, because it nourishes the stomach and makes it work well). Rather cooked than raw food (reason above).
This way, I have lost two dress sizes in 2 years.

  6. Karen,I used a stock foto of the salad, so I think it may be walnuts you are seeing instead of bacon...altho I did cook a whole pound of bacon yesterday. I have no fear of it getting old. Dave will make it a priority.

  7. Wow, you not only admitted it, you spelled out the big girl word... brassiere! Haven't heard that one in ages.
I love salads, too... I just forget it when I see carbs so close and easy to consume.

  8. Good for you -- I like the sound of your program...I need to do the same. And yes! if you did it before successfully you can do it again! Let your creativity continue to rule in your kitchen!

  9. Yay for you Mel! Do you eat nothing after 2pm? How do you do that? I'm curious about it as I may join you.

  10. Gad - - - right up to this all the inspiration you've provided for me have been FUN.
What, now it's reality? ? ? Boy, it sure comes up and hits ya side the head. Yeah, I need to do the same thing. Good intentions - - - - -

  11. If the socks are too big for "her" she can give them to me when I visit!

  12. Well, bacon would go well with the avocados and other stuff, but it probably won't help much with the goal of loosening your clothes. Good luck -- I keep losing the same twenty pounds over and over gets harder and harder as I get older and older...

I am signing up for your eating plan. Have same problem with the undergarments. vj
