One Step Closer
One step closer to being done with decorating. I have moved my books (all but the cookbooks) to my new bookcases. I wanted four Billys, but they had only three left until the next shipments arrives. Now I think three is just right.
Note the striped bedcover? It is a Target exclusive. Ha! A comforter in my colors, reversible to red. It even comes with a sham. Now I really don't need to make a bed quilt.
I like my books horizontal so I can read the titles. Books in the left case are knitting and sewing, the center case holds painting and design books, and the right case holds quilting books. I have more of those than any other kind.
I decided the red chest is now a sideboard to the dining room set. Good color for that room. It took both of us to assemble the table. No rug under here, since I spill and drop often. And slurp.
The quilt and pillow bring color to that subdued couch.
And look at this lovely birthday present I received from my blog friend Eva. A Night in Hortensia Gardens. Thank you Eva!
PS. the painting over the fireplace can be seen here. Or at this site in the 2006 archives.
Everything looks so warm and comfy. I'll be right over!
ReplyDeleteWow! It looks great. Everything is shaping up well. Love the bookcases and love your gift!
ReplyDeleteLove those bookcases and that might be a good solution to a storage problem I have as well. Hmm... Love Eva's artsy morsel, what is it made of?
ReplyDeleteOhmygod, the rooms look so good! It's all so beautiful. Any chance we could see the piece over the fireplace?
ReplyDeleteYou are creating a perfect little haven for your rest. The books on the shelves look so nice~
ReplyDeleteWhat an amzing transformation.
ReplyDeleteThe house is becoming more Melody and Dave each and every step of the way. Love it!

What a wondefully warm and inviting space. I absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteMelody, it looks so warm. Amazing what a little re-do can accomplish.
ReplyDeleteLooks fab! And I like the way the books are organized--flat but color peeks out. So much better than pulling a few books out of a long line on a shelf and everything tips over.
ReplyDeletePS: I just picked up a book from the library--it was in the "new books" section, but is it really an updated version? It's "The Quilter's Catalog," and look who's in it? Our favorite Fibermaniac! It's a shame that your quilts aren't pictured in color, tho.
The home dec is coming along nicely. I love the space in front of the fireplace - the orange walls, white mantle (mantel?), and the colorful quilt and pillow on the sofa. Very warm and inviting. I love your painting above the mantle, too. Also, I love the gift from Eva. It goes perfectly with your decor! I love the colors and the design.

Lovely room and great feel
ReplyDeleteYou said "I like my books horizontal so I can read the titles"
I just turn my head sidewise to read them but I like me horizontal to read the book
I LOVE your room - very warm, colorful, homey, artsy, and inviting! Would you come over and redo mine? HA!
ReplyDeleteYour Decorating is Beautiful. The colours that you have chosen for your home bring it to life. I love you blue birds. We don't have them in Ontario, at least not that I have ever seen. What pretty litle things.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. Exciting and inspirational yet peaceful and embracing. A clean, well-lighted space... + + +
ReplyDeleteAnd shelving the books horizontally? Just the idea I was looking for! Thanks. Isn't three (bookcases, here) almost always better than four?
Enjoy, and thanks again for sharing such beauty and talent with us via the innerwebs.
Carmen, the picture is made of water coloured square bits of thick, structured paper, glued to a black cardboard background with added gouache painting.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks great! Would you like to visit me in Florida and help me decorate? :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks so like you, you must be loving it. I do.
