Asian Pear

Asian Pear Sold
oil on gallery wrapped canvas, 12x12x1"

We were very lucky to have a healthy Hosui Pear planted in our orchard. Of all the fruit trees we have this is the only one not bothered at all by pests. Each one of these pears is perfect, small but perfect.
I just learned about these delicious fruit a few years ago when I was given one as a gift, from Frieda Anderson. Thanks Frieda.

  1. I really like this one. It shows a certain maturity that the others lack. Maybe it's the time of day, the hue, the sense of darkness... I see a move from your previous work. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR JOURNEY!!

  2. I really love this painting. The color combinations are wonderful, soft and rich, and of course I love the leaves.

  3. I love the looseness of this one, plus the drama of the high contrast!! Wow.

  4. This is just stunning, especially the transparency of the leaves. I love watching your new work show up every day. :-)

  5. I loathe pears, but love these paintings!
And my, what soft colours you've used. (I was tempted to add grandma as in'what big eyes you have, grandma' in little Red Riding Hood, but couldn't work out whether it would translate into American English!!!!)

This painting today is soooooo amazing as to be SURREAL. I really had to keep 'it' together to stop myself from squealing in what seems like awe and glee.
Those leaves seem so real, and then again like something imaginary. The background is wonderful. Just everything about this picture leaves me awestruck.

It that Hosui pear the same as a Nashi pear?

    It is so wonderful!!!

  7. Melody,

I love the life-like quality you have captured in the leaves. Another great painting!! I love pears but have never heard of this variety. How nice that you have your own orchard to supply you not only with fruit, but good painting subjects!
