Officially Obsessed

And I am not alone. Look what Dave has started. He is moving these stones from the other side of the property, in the wheelbarrow, across the hills and valleys to get to the pondside. Some are too large to lift, so he breaks them up with a sledgehammer. Is this not obsession?

I've got to admit, I really like how this looks. Not like a mudhole, but more like a planned water feature. I have a vivid imagination.

I am excited by dirt.

Not to be outdone, I took Tilly out and started churning up the grassy area. I got a swath turned and raked and my labor revealed we have a good inch of topsoil, which I moved to a spot close to the edge of the yard.

Here's the plan (ha!): I am removing the crab grass/weeds and we will have a patio and a border of plantings, and in the center we will have a vast sea of mulch. That's to start. Then yearly we will build in more and more of the border plantings, importing soil and plants until we have a proper garden. We are working as fast as we can to get as much done as we can before it gets too hot to work.

I've discovered I am not alone in my digging. There are several of these right in the middle of the yard.

Indoors my tomatoes are into their second sets of leaves but my pepper seeds refuse to germinate. I may be forced to buy plants. O well.

The forget-me-nots are joined by volunteer mushrooms. What fun.

It's beginning to get very green across the street.

Looking good. I am jealous. Hopefully it will warm up enough while we are out west in the snowy mountains so that I can do some gardening when I get home.

  3. nice work by Farmer Dave. My favorite day is the one where you go out and look into the distance and everything is that fresh limey green. Beautiful!

  6. I think the rocks by the pond make a world of difference! They look so right there. It's fun to see the little changes happening at the Yohnson Hacienda.
